Axe Posted February 28, 2007 Report Share Posted February 28, 2007 I don't know how it is in your area but round this way (Mid-Sussex) you dont often see game on any but the most expensive menu's. But today I met with a client in his Pub near Hazlemere and he offered me dinner. I asked for a menu and was pleasently surprised to find it packed with game. :unsure: I promptly ordered Pheasant Breasts served with Caramalised Apple & Chestnuts with a Chirvil sauce. Sitting down to eat it (and delicious it was too) we discussed the locals and how fond they are of the game menu and the pub. Mind you it turns out there are alot of shoots in the area and all the game including the venison is local. Either way, its nice to be able to sample good game cooking at sensible prices in a public house. Dunkield Posted February 28, 2007 Report Share Posted February 28, 2007 I was invited to a Wedding at the Savoy last year (well if I am honest I was mrs stuartp's + 1 :unsure: ) The main course was venison, as you would expect it was bloomin' lovely, but I did think it was a brave choice for a wedding meal in this day and age I have a picture of it somewhere, but I was fairly hammered by the time we sat down so it's very blurry :o Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Oh, the 'other' Hazlemere :unsure: The Cowdray Estate isn't too far from their Axe, and fair few Deer get shot there, and I reckon there would be few pheasant shoots round Goodwood way. Not much sign of it in the chain type commercial dumps, but the smaller locals do.
