happy.plinker
Had my Toyota rav4 2.2 diesel a few months now and occasionally every warning light comes on,seems to be EGR valve sooting up,been cleaned out a few times but then all lights on again. No motorways up here to give it a good clean out, anyone know a solution other than selling it? thanks hp. fruity
Give it all a good clean then blank it off
shaun4860
Could it be the DPF filter? EGR valve normally doesnt clean its self but the DPF filter does?
neil82
need to know what year it is, and has it got the dreaded DPF system fitted, most DPF problems are self inflicted by people driving them like old farts trying to get 99mpg, if you have no motorway round you to give it a good blast then just leave 5th and 6th gears alone every so often, and if its egr blank it off, older cars can deal with it newer stuff monitors the gas flow through it so flags up a fault
happy.plinker
Its a 07 plate, my nephews a mechanic and will ask him about DPF and blanking of the EGR,didn't think you could blank anything off but it is 7 years old so might get of with it, seems like there's a few things to try yet,and neil82 I'll try the gears thing as I'm not an old **** yet , thanks for the replies. happy.plinker
What!! farts is allowed but not the singular!!
Cannon
Being an 07 model there is the possibility it has a DPF filter installed. The EGR valve doesn't normally throw up lots of warning lights. It'll most likely reduce the performance of the vehicle if it's clogged. Get vehicle diagnostics done to check for fault codes. That way it will narrow down the search for the root cause of the problem.
happy.plinker
Cannon, the performance is poorer when all the warning lights come on,I had it on the machine at the garage a few months ago and it stumped them, was told to take it to a toyota garage South! £££ got a bill for £300 too. I'll mention dpf and blanking of the EGR maybe at a different garage.thanks
chris31
More than likely the dpf, a good thrash for an hour or 2 usually sorts the problem, unless it's really clogged then replacement or a chemical bath wash is normally required. Not sure what conditions you have been driving in but could always check the air filter too. Hope you get sorted.
neil82
if its an 07 model DPF is unlikely, points more towards EGR fault, blank the sod off and see what its like, with the mil lamp on a power loss may be down to it going in to limp mode but if the lamp has come on it should flag up some sort of fault code, get it scanned and go from there
Westward
My diesel has a DPF and the handbook says to give it 10 minutes or more constantly above 2000 rpm, at least once a month. The only practical way to do that round these parts is a motorway run, consequently all the old trouts and school run mums who never go further than Tesco eventually get DPF problems. For £45 my local garage will hook up their fancypants diagnostics box and set it to burn down and regenerate the DPF with the car parked up in the corner. As far as the DPF is concerned it's just like an hour on the motorway. I'd also recommend an engine cleanser such as BG224 for diesels or BG44K for either diesel or petrol. Saves messing around with the EGR.
Cannon
I would also second BG244 for diesels. It's not a cure for egr problems but it certainly helps to stop the build up of crud
Westward
The folks that sell and promote BG244 claim it cleans the EGR. I don't know for sure but I can certainly vouch for their other claims about about improved running and economy.
happy.plinker
Well the lights have gone off after driving at 60 in forth gear for a few days, must of cleared something, once I get the garage cleared I'll get it in and check over a few bits. smig4373
I've had engine warning light on my ford maverick 2.7td coming on for about 8 months now, always about 5 minutes after starting then it's on for a while then off then on etc..recently it's started to stay on more than it's off..engine runs ok when it's on,a little juddery at low revs under load but not to bad..read up on it and it's probably a blocked egr valve...it's in a real awkward position on the maverick so me taking it off for a clean is a no no.I've done to usual, thrashed it down the a30,poured in lots of Redex type additives and put in shell v power etc..no difference...anyway....I found on the web yesterday a product called 'wynnes egr cleaner spray'...reviews were mixed, some said it worked, some said it's snake oil and don't bother.....I bought some this morning,£9.99 from halfords...engine running, spray in 1 second burst into the air inlet.whole can gone....just been to Plymouth and back shopping, about 50mile round trip..hay presto..no engine light,no juddering..smooth power, and less engine noise..a very noticable difference...I was sceptical at first, but that's the 1st journey I've done since having it with no warning light on....another thing I did last week was cleaned the maf sensor in the airbox, that also made a huge difference to performance..it felt like someone had just bolted 50bhp on it....might be worth banging a can of this in your car before you shell out at the garage or for parts...I'll be getting another can at the weekend...
