Fuddster
Drive one for work occaisonally. Love it's smooth gear change with auto box. Much much better than the d3 we had before.but check out d4 horror stories on line and you might reconsider. I may be venturing into the prestige gun chauffeur business/loader/instructor sometime and have ear marked a toyota landcruiser as the preferred transport (I drive one now) If and when they wrong the costs will require a kidney to be sold to fund repairs.mind you my wife does have two kidneys..... Xr1200
I have a range rover 53 plate at minute I've had it 6 years and have had to sacrifice my wage for that time period just to keep the thing running still love it though but just fancy a change
SEshooter
Xr1200 I am in the same position. Own a 04 td6 vogue, very tempted to chop it in on a disco 4. It's just become a money pit over the last year.

Not really happy about it because the reliability issues. I do fancy a disco 4 xs 2012 Should be a bit better on diesel as well Edited November 25, 2014 by SEshooter
Xr1200
I've had gearbox £1900 + vat air suspension compressor £200 6 injectors £800 countless sensors power steering pump alternator the list goes on still love it though lol. Just wish the japs could make something that drove and looked as good without the good old jap interior that looks like its been crafted out of a bin lid

Xr1200
I bought it with 50000 its now got 90000 the gear box always goes bang around 80000 a guy near me replaces them all the time it's supposed to be sealed for life but they don't last it's the same in an x5 and 530d **** idea unfortunately, it's been quite reliable lately though cos my wife drives my old defender now so it never turns a wheel lol. I went to px it on a disco and they offered me 7k I want 8 for it really ive just spent £800 quid on a set of tyres for it who ever buys it off me will get a good one
SEshooter
Don't say that, mine has got 83000 on it lol. I got offered £7500 for it px on a new ford ranger wildtrak. They are on auto trader with similar mileage for a lot more £££'s, how do these people sell them.

D4 for the off road capabiltiy and looks/prestige but I've got to say i'd be having kittens at the running costs. same for the range rovers.love them just mega bucks when they dont work. f. SEshooter
I did read they were prone for the gearbox faults, just not specifically around 80000 miles. I am keen to get rid of it.
Xr1200
There's an auto gearbox specialist in Huddersfield where I had mine repaired and its scattered with range rovers and bmw's as soon as I rang him up telling him the problem he instantly said what mileage is it i said 81000 he instantly said your gearbox is gone because u can't change the oil the filter gets blocked and starves the torque converter it then chews itself up, I drove past today and there were 3 parked outside lol. Also my mates an independent landrover specialist and he told me exact same thing. To be right you could change the oil but you have to remove the sump as there is no drain but it is supposedly sealed for life
archi
It has been recommended to me to change the gearbox oil in the RR and disco at about 60k Did this in the RR 53 plate and it had done 73k when I sold it last year for 11k Now got a 60 plate disco 4 and will get the oil changed at the next service
Alycidon
Money pits by and large, A friend loves them, he has two, they pull big trailers all round europe. Both engine crankshafts have snapped leading to one massive bill, the other was under warranty luckily. A
