Hi Rangy

The Photon is a self contained unit so replaces your scope so no PA involved just put it on and away you go after zeroing.

The Nite Site needs a PA scope to be really effective and is an add on unit to your current scope.

Cheers Neil

As above. The advantage of the Nite Site or similar add on is that it can be used with different rifles. Using a PA scope will get the best results, but it can be used with a non PA one. The difference is that using a non PA scope, you won't be able to see the scope's reticule clearly, but up against a fox sized target, it's okay.

would a illuminated reticle counteract this...just a thought

Infrared has a longer wavelength than visible light so it focuses at a different distance, a parallax adjustable scope will allow you to focus for ir, otherwise your image will be unfocused. I have a dedicated night vision rifle and a day rifle, could you get away with having just one fitted with a photon and the others remain day rifles?

ive thought about this but i use all 3 rifles for day and nite...might work out better to change scopes and use add on nv

I have a photon with a nite tek illuminator fitted to my .22 RF for rabbit shooting ! It's a good piece of kit and I'm impressed with it for ranges upto 100yds realistically ! I also use it in the day too ! It's black and white, u can clearly make out your quarry , but it's obviously not as clear as a day scope ! I have a .17 HMR with a day scope which i try and use in the day if possible ! Have used the photon on my .223 but it's limited past 100 yds really because of clarity and low magnification ! Rimfire brilliant , centre fire ok to 100 Yds ! I would highly recommend an additional IR illuminator too as the built in ones are a bit **** if I'm being honest ! Also photon is a doddle to zero and setup, battery life seems impressive too ! Hope this helps !

i have a mk1 photon which i used purely as night shooting, but have just sold the gun it was on and am considering selling the photon and getting an add-on in its place,to be able to use all rifles, but am now thinking about getting 2 weaver rails and 3 sets of qd scope rings,so being able to take the day scope off drop the photon on,which would have been zeroed to both guns previously, noting the settings on windage/elevation,and then altering according to whichever gun it went on,as im not really sure about head position with an add-on such as the nt-300,well at least thats my theory at present

I have owned both I still own the ns200 found the picture on the photon to be not as good I can also easily change the ns200 from one rifle to another easily so very versatile ... A second hand ns200 is a very good buy daylight on an ns200 does not damage and found no problem using the space invader screen to look through is quite comfortable compared to an addon were you need long arms and hold your head nearly off the stock the ns is also very light unlike some of my dedicated night vision

Using my Cobra Merlin with a non PA scope, I found that with fox sized targets, I could see the reticule clear enough to pick my point of aim. On smaller targets (rabbits) I could not pinpoint where I wanted to shoot it (head shot) so did not bother shooting at them. My Cobra Merlin will be used in conjunction with my .22 Hornet /MTC Genesis scope, which is excellent.

I have an ATN X Sight on order, which I have been told today, via email, that they are due in the UK next January (for the 3-12x version) I am debating to cancel my order and stick with my Cobra Merlin, for the amount of NV shooting I will be doing.

thanks for all the information guys....didnt realise tyhere was so much choice out there...had a read up on the atn x sight..looks a good bit of kit for the money..still like the idea of a add on,but that would mean a change of scopes..toyed with the idea of qd scope rings..photon looks ok for my rimfires, but not the 223.....confused or what...might just stick to the lamp :/ ...think i will wait till the shooting show and have a look at them all...again thanks for all your input..
