loriusgarrulus
Aldi have got Innis & Gunn Oak aged Treacle Porter in £1.49 a 330ml bottle. Comes in a posh box and was in the centre aisle in ours with the christmas specials. They also have a Rum Porter as well. Looks interesting. Not fond of Rum so have just bought the Treacle Porter one to try.
bruno22rf
I posted a heads up about this offer a couple of weeks back and i'm surprised that Aldi have any left on the shelves-the one you didn't mention is Canadian Cherry Wood finish. These Ales are superb and just 3 bottles put me to sleep-every time I visit Aldi I buy at least 10 bottles and I have nearly 60 in my garage . These are limited edition beers and when they are gone that's it-at £1.49/bottle its a giveaway.
loriusgarrulus
Will have a look for the Cherry next time I am in. Didn't see it today so it might be finished. :(
Flashman
I do love a Guinness, but all things considered, I don't think they can beat the original and best. All the rest are playing to the alcopop brigade. Edited December 10, 2014 by Flashman
bruno22rf
Innis and Gunn can hardly be accused of producing an Alcopop-the beer was produced as a by product and was initially thrown away. It certainly isn't an Ale for everyone as it is quite thick and unusual in its taste-not unlike "Old Tom" but considerably cheaper. As an avid "consumer" of Ales with a distinctive flavor I must confess that the current offerings from I&G-taking into account the price at Aldi at the moment-puts it in my top 3 of all time and close to Old Peculier-but I must admit that I can only drink these Ales if well chilled which makes me a big girls blouse Edited December 10, 2014 by bruno22rf
TIGHTCHOKE
Well chilled! Good grief man!
loriusgarrulus
Drinking it now at room temperature. Very nice. Remaniscent of Guinness with a slight overtone of black treacle. Delicious.
Paddy Galore!
Hi Lori, i'm not really a fan of porter, I did try the brewdog creation but thought it foul. I have found "hoppy hen" while perusing the local budgens, along with old golden hen and a nice tasting hoppy hare from badger brewery which is thrice hopped no less. none of them really compare to my all time favourite American double from brewdog though, that stuff is lush Edited December 11, 2014 by Paddy Galore! loriusgarrulus
Really enjoyed it. Was addicted to Guinness and Mackeson when I was pregnant both times and have always liked stout type beers ever since.
hesstondriver
Thanks for the tip, not so keen on the rum one , but the treacle one
secretagentmole
The West Indes Porter from Guinness is well worth a try too. Reminds me of Muntons Dockland Porter for those of you who know about such things!

loriusgarrulus
Went to Aldi today and they had the Cherry wood finished in today. Had a bottle with dinner. Very good and tasty. Similiar to some Mild beers. Aldi was busy today late morning, so I finished the Christmas shopping bar the fresh veg. Think I will go to Tesco at 3:00 in the morning next week for that and avoid the last minute mad rush.
