Age to work in a gunsmith?

Hi all,

I asked my local shop whether they might have a saturday job for me there and they said they were looking for someone to come in on saturdays after the new year. I asked them what the minimum age would be as I've recently turned 16 and they didn't seem sure. Any ideas? One of the guys thought 17 so that I can have the relevant licences but I can already have SGC, FAC etc now?

cheers

AFAIK there is no difference to working in any other shop. RFD staff are covered by being employees and don't need their own certs (can you imagine the paperwork if you did) Not sure if the new VCR act and Euro laws mean that like alcohol you would need to be 18 to sell (transact) a gun/ammo.

But that doesn't stop you making the tea carrying slabs of carts to customers cars or selling clothing, boots accessories etc.

FEO might BASC may be a better call, is the RFD a BASC trade member? Or GTA?

As i assume you are still at school and not of school leaving age yet then its a bitt more complex

Where-ever there is an age restriction concerning the purchase or possession of any item, i.e. knives; solvents, alcohol, guns - anything on the age restricted lists - the same restriction applies in reverse, i.e. you can't sell that item if under the restriction age.

Other than that, as said by others above, a shop is a shop, and a place of employment a place of employment and just the general rules apply - employers liability, PAYE , H&S@W, all no different in a gun shop from a sweet shop.

I appreciate your replies, I make enough money at the moment; I was just looking for something shooting related to do on my Saturdays which will also give me some experience in a shop environment and I suppose it will look good on my uni application, but I look forward to it...if they give me a job that is. :good:
