vermin day cartridge

Recommended Posts

been invited on a lot of vermin days and was wondering what cartridge to buy ?

i have some 30g 5s to use up but was thinking of getting something with a little more punch like 32-36g 4s ?

then something for the foxes ?

but my issue is the only 12 bore i have acess to at the moment is a berretta dt10 clay gun and was wondering if it would be alright for these loads or what the biggest load i could put through it ?

Apart from the fox, what are you expecting to shoot?

That load sounds fine for squirrels, I tighten my chokes up a bit and just use whatever I have to hand - we tend to get through loads of cartridges on our days.

i intend to shoot everything legal

and yes having a look cartridges are expensive ! need to find somewhere that has them cheap !

i`ve used 36g 4s and 2s, mainly on ground game. i can tell you they are good for a no nonsense rangy shots...

these are by far more expensive, but unless you are shooting serious volume, have a go.

i`ve used 42g BB on rabbits too. still in a 2,75"

i can honestly say i`ve had some stellar shots at quite some range, but this was in a ferreting situation. essentially letting the rabbit run, the first shots were missed by a friend, i shot it because it was set up so i could cover the ones he missed.

i`ve also shot rabbits with 4s 2s they were rotewill hv2 i think, i ended up shooting them a "good" distance out, that my friend wouldn even attempt, he was using clay cartridges and shooting from 3-4 yards to about 20.

yes but from what company ?

Are you not a Gamebore fan?

If I don't have anything laying around I will buy Hull Superfasts but as UD says I won't make any real difference

The only reason for gunning up a bit is we have very high trees and the squirrels use that to their advantage :ninja:

Those cartridges will do the job nicely enough. What more do you need?

32g 5's will kill most things on a vermin day, if there were a lot of hares I would increase to 3's. Foxes well unless you are really lucky you won't know you are about to shoot one so won't have time to swap and just shoot them within 25 yards or less and 5's will be fine
