Elk hunter
Always like the back end of summer the evenings are just the best and after the last few days of damp cold dark days I though I'd post one of my more successful evenings out last summer. It was going to be a beautiful evening the dog and I decided to have a walk round after I'd watered my allotment up the farm. Took my 1890's antique rook rifle now chambered in .22 K Hornet for a spin. Warm with a light breeze it was perfect just to be out. Started off at the back of the building and hadn't gone far when I spied a rabbit on a mound near the hedge. Managed to get to a fence post to rest on, set the trigger slipping the safety off. A quick queak just to get him to sit up, touched the trigger and bold him over. 80 yard head shot is not bad with the 1.5 x wever scope almost like using open sights, shooting at its best. After picking up the young buck and dropping it off at the van I moved on to the woods. Plenty of magpies and squirrels in the spinnies but up in the trees, could have done with a little air power. As I got into the front field infront of the house lots of sheep to give the game away to any unsuspecting quarry and lots of the white fluffy tails bouncing off into the distance. Over into the lakes and more of a walk than a stalk dead quite with the sun going down and the fish coming up. Very tranquil and a perfect place to sit and refect on a good day to be alive. But can't sit and let life pass me by as I could hear some cows squawking in the next field. Quick footed up the track to the gate way at the top of the lakes and there was 5 of the black demons, just jumping up and down doing a dance. No more then 60/70 yards and to busy to notice me or the dog. Slipped the rifle into my shoulder and without to much time to think took one out the middle of the pack. Needles to say the rest were doing a hole lot more squawking but in the air. Headed back and a swift cup of tea in the orchard with my parent, offered then the rabbit but my mother declined as it wasnt skinned and my father informed me he wasn't that desperate since the fridge was full. Had a great time and should do it more often, even in the winter months. Andrew

Underdog
That is an excellent rifle. Has it got the irons still on it? Thanks for sharing. U.
Elk hunter
The dogs vintage...14 years old in April and the past 6 months is starting to show his age. Likes a lie in theses days. The rifle does have the origonal leaf sights and can be used with the scope on due to the peep through mounts. Andrew
