Salop Matt
Folks as above really for pigeon (Roost shooting and decoying) in a SxS do you use 28gram or 30gram cartridges? In my heavy Browing 525 sporter 32grams isnt a worry or noticed at all. How ever the SxS is lighter so more felt recoil. So given the choice of 28gram or 30gram which would you use on pigeons? Am thinking of 28gram to save on recoil as I do find the 30gram a little punchy in a light SxS at times. Maybe am being a wuss and need to man up a little though. plank06
Go for whichever makes it enjoyable to shoot! No point kicking yourself if there's no need to, 28 grams of 6 will sort pigeons just fine, I manage with 14grams in the SBS .410 and do pretty good! I use 21g of #6 in my 28 bore and that's more than you need, though you might notice it if you're having an off day like I was yesterday (pace Dave!). If I had a .410, I'd be using 12-14g myself. Don't let your gun beat you up. Someone like me might come along and accuse it of domestic violence if you let it carry on... TIGHTCHOKE
Well I use 28, 29 and 30 depending upon which box I pick up, gradually getting through the last of the old stuff on the slow days!
aga man
28gm would be my choice.
Guest cookoff013
use whatever, i tend to stick to classic loads, but it depends on your budget. its not illegal to shoot 21g at birds but probably good for the easy sitting shots (you know) 25 yards max. although i prefer 32g 6s (or more .....) i cant argue from the recoil reduction. Which is why - presumably - when the shooter does his bit, they'll bring down birds perfectly well at twice that distance? Blind prejudice I'm afraid cookoff. Blind prejudice I'm afraid cookoff. there are alot of variables, shotsize selection is just one of them. why does digweed use 34g loads of #5, why isnt he using 21g evo 9s to boost there sales. its personal preference, i like 6s.. I've no idea and I agree. Not sure I mentioned shooting #9s (or that I could shoot, for that matter) but I stand by my original assertion - 21g of #6 with a bit of choke will reliably kill a 50 yard bird if the shooter is capable of the shot.
