Another fine muntjac

I couldn't wait to get away from work yesterday so grabbed my stuff and got out on my ground by 4pm, the evenings are opening up just enough for that to give enough time to make it worthwhile. As is the way at the moment, despite a bit of sun, very little was moving. Plenty of pheasants still and annoyingly quite a few squirrels too (that are never there in those numbers when you set out to shoot them).

After a while a nice roe doe appeared but walked the wrong way for where I was, never closer than 220 yards and no backstop, so I just watched here for a bit through the bins. As seems to be way, as I panned round from her there was a muntjac doe walking the same way.

Thinking that would be it, literally last knockings this nice buck appeared on the same ride but walked away from the girls.

I held off until it was at about 150 yards in and took the shot as light was fading rapidly.

Yet again, when I got up to it I was impressed by the size and condition, he has clearly been eating well, and will now be eaten well :)

Although he is a chunky monkey, I was sat up waiting for the one I know is there or there abouts that is half as big again.

I know it is unhealthy to become obsessed with 'trophy' deer but having seen this one once I can't stop thinking it will put in another appearance, of course he never does.

He is by far the biggest buck I have ever seen, maybe one day I will see him again...
