Teal
The stupid thing is we get taxed based on our carbon emissions in fuel duty. So this road tax is a double tax, and doesn't actually tax what it's apparently set out to tax. This is because a 4x4 doing 15,000 miles a year at 25 mpg actually pollutes less than a saloon doing 50 mpg and 30,001 miles per year. Highlander
Actually it's not a 4 x 4 tax but a tax on the highest polluting vehicles. More spin...global warming is the governments way of making us feel good about paying more taxes. Remember back in the 70's (OMG yes I am) oil was going to run out in about 10 years and boy was the world going to suffer! yeah like hell all that happened is governments got to take us for another huge tax ride
pin
Without getting into the whole conspiracy theory thing, the only reason our cars don't already run almost emission free on just tap water, is oil. The only reason we are in a state of conflict is oil as we all know, but why? Well, if oil is about $45 a barrel its more economical to pay for it. $60 a barrel and over, it makes more sense to fight and take it, looking at it purely economically. Country_est
So much for 4x4 and big car tax For me its Fronterra (diesel 2.2) 4wd £180 pre M1 category Passat (diesel 2.0) 4wd £165 co2 emission 176 band E Corrolla (petrol 1.8) 2wd £205 co2 emission 198 band F Perma 4x4 on Passat is the cheapest 4x2 on the Frontera is in the middle So the 2wd car with the smallest engine (but the fastest) is the most expensive Both the Corrolla & Passat are 04 reg. al4x
the odd thing about it is that its an incentive to own an older 4x4 on which the emissions are going to be worse than a newer one. After all buy an old rangie and you can emit what you like for £180. But I'm sure they'll try and tax older vehicles off the road before long.
