CaptC
Hello folks Just acquired a Kawasaki KLF V twin quad. Can anyone tell me what the override switch is for? The previous owner did not know/use it so its sitting on the left hand side with my thumb very tempted to press it! Thanks
scutt
think it overrides the engine brake system when engaged you loss engine braking when you throttle back

Essex Keeper
It's for when you go backwards ?
CaptC
think it overrides the engine brake system when engaged you loss engine braking when you throttle back Why (silly question) would you want to loose the engine breaking? Must try it tomorrow ------ Thanks for the reply
CaptC
It's for when you go backwards ? Very good! The biggest quad I have driven so far is a 350 and reversing this beast is "fun". If there is a mushroom cloud over East Cornwall, we will know that you pressed it When drove it today there was plenty of clouds of a gaseous nature not emanating from the quads exhaust! spandit
Does it allow you to start it in gear?
CaptC
Does it allow you to start it in gear? Ah! Will try that tomorrow - thanks!!
Essex Keeper
On my quad if you press the button it allows you to full rev in reverse
spandit
Ah! Will try that tomorrow - thanks!! Purely a guess but my Kawasaki Mule won't start if it's in gear and it might make it easier to bump out of trouble when I get stuck
scutt
Why (silly question) would you want to loose the engine breaking? Must try it tomorrow ------ Thanks for the reply fuel consumption on twin carb type not fuel injectors old SAABs had free wheel for this reason . mind you only what I think as never used it on my kawa kv but next time out with the kv Iwill try it . Even though it's had a hard life the only work I had to do on this bike other than servicing was shim up drive belt, balance carbs and replace front diff solenoid + lever

Re the button - tried it forwards backwards etc - not any difference at all!
robbiep
I've got a Kawasaki KVF 650, and no idea what it does either ... They reckon it'll top out at 65 mph. I've had it up to 35, and that was fast enough !

Quite agree - the acceleration is impressive and can cause some under pant filling moments - If you accidentally nudge the throttle when doing something tricky watch out! Strange about the switch/button ??
spandit
According to this, it disables the reverse rev limiter: http://www.rattlebars.com/prairie/

Think I will keep it as it is - Maybe i might try pressing it when in 4 wheel drive and reverse on some very soft ground just in case the quad decides to throw me off?
