Paul223
Did you get an answer fenboy ? Id like to ask for opinions on mine as its still sat hear after 2 weeks for sale. I had a 20 bore for sale for a month with no serious interest, then a guy last week bought it for the asking price and two further enquiries this week! Patience! Zapp
We don't allow valuation threads on the forum. This is because such threads have previously been used as bait by scammers and have resulted in members being ripped off. The advice we give members is to ascertain a price for equipment by googling its name and "for sale", and then having established a price range, deciding one what they would take for it. fenboy
Yes the thread was pulled because someone offered to buy on it . My argument is I asked for a valuation and there is not much i can do about people offering to buy , in my opinion the offending post should be removed not the thread. To be fair the Mod concerned understood where I was coming from and was going to have a con-flab with the other moderators regarding it. Zapp
It has been a policy for a while but the line hasn't been added to the rules yet as the people with the permissions to change them have been busy lately.
fenboy
A bit strange the Moderator that sent me a PM did not seem to know about the no valuation rule , he just said it was pulled because someone offered to buy. Shame that we cannot call on members knowledge on the subject.
Zapp
Pass, maybe he just didn't know. The site is run by volunteers in their spare time so its not as though we have training days or test people on their knowledge. It is a shame but we have to put the risk of people falling victim to scammers ahead of convenience.
oliver90owner
A blanket rule is not always best. For instance, a thread on valuation for insurance purposes might be OK, particularly if the poster made it clear that the item was not for sale. Trouble is that there will always be some that try to push the window, so it spoils it for the rest. Often new members trying to take advantage. On another forum I use, it goes on. Sales items are not permitted, but there continue to be ''how much is it worth'' posts. They eventually get banned if they persist but are a nuisance in the interim period. A moderator cannot always get it right for everybody all of the time! Just goes with the territory. I like the rule for pricing items for sale. Some may seem to think they should get the same as on epay, but forget all the charges on that site, per eg., but most items are realistically priced and so good value.
