gunners
I smear the copper slip on before turning on the heat. I also make sure the edge of the run off is like a knife edge with no burs on it. I use 100% fabric conditioner as well which helps a lot. Have you read the pinned post at the top of this section? Lord Geordie
Is the dimpling not because the water/fab softner mix is too cold?
Saltings
Hi lads would somebody please help me out I have tried my shot maker this morning and a lot of the shot has got a dimple in it.could someone please tell me what is causing it.I am caching it in water with a bit of fabric condisner .also how do you apply copper slip to make it smooth I used French chalk but it keeper sticking to the ramp.thanks for looking a looking forward to your replys? Use neat fabric conditioner and turn the heat down on your machine if you can melt the lead in a separate pot and ladle it across you will get better results a slight dimple can be normal but if it has as a pinhole in it the shot can be hollow cut some open and have a look if so (your heat is too high or your cooling is way too fast surface tension etc)hence neat conditioner I use plasterboard scraps to chalk the ramp as you can do this while the machine is running can run anywhere from 50kg to 200 kg if lead is clean if by any chance you get Zink in your mix it will run on your ramp like water and will not drip and will appear to stick to the ramp looks a lot shinier and does not have as light blue tinge to it if so throw the batch away and start again hope this helps

snarepeg
They will have dimples on all sides on fireing, one to start with won't make a bit of difference. I know about Perfection and it can be an headache to some, but it's all in the mind they will shoot no better or worse as is. Some of the stuff I have put thru my barrels over the years would make you cringe but it fetched stuff down or stopped it running Enjoy the shot making, draughs are a killer on perfection cooling your drop plate and causing the sticking, along with other things.
