robbiep
These Sierra's version of A-max ? I'm hard tempted to go onto using the A-max on foxes, rather than loading A-max for target and V-max for fox, and having to keep them separate ! Though that'd mean I'd possibly encounter difficulties when my renewal came round, as my FAC wouldn't show the purchase of any 'officially' expanding bullets ! Ah, firearms law in the UK ... maxwell
And demand is rising, they are a very good alternative to the Amax and the with a BC of 0.402 in .224" comparable to the Amax 75's. We have found them to be a lot less barrel fussy too compared to the Hornady
Vince Green
My friends in mid Wales have been using FMJ on foxes for years. They can't get expanding bullets because its an all day drive to buy a hundred. They say the difference is not even noticable for a .
Underdog
For years I just used hpbt match bullets. Burst a treat.
Bewsher500
I only use Amax on foxes having moved from difficult to get Vmax They work like a messy soft point, more exits but still very dead some "hot water bottle" foxes like the Vmax but on the whole they just do what you would expect a 52gr 3000fps projectile to do to a 15lb animal......kill it! FWIW FMJ's especially Sierra SMK are NOT the same kettle of fish at all and can often be found just deformed into a banana shape rather than opening up or "expanding" That to me sounds like a 50+ grain bouncer waiting to happen am sure the inclusion of a BT would open it up nicely though as would a trimmed meplat to create a more obvious hollow point Edited May 22, 2015 by Bewsher500
Underdog
Do you really think you can turn the tide on idiots making idiotic knee jerk laws by what we discuss here? Wake up Mr!

There is no law on what you shoot foxes with the expanding ammuntion constraints are a bigger headache for the administrators than it is for us do you really think the powers that be are working in the background to make matters more complex for themselves? what next? licensed lead in case you cast your own!? Underdog
So let's get this right. Gobby bully on here is frightened of big brother and his team of ***** weighting laws against him. Typical bully behaviour. Mouths off at a distance, a wuss face to face. If they want them boys they will have them. Only this one won't be rogered by them or kak his pants! Dougy
Well not wanting to getting tide up in any bickering, I'm actually 54 you know, its some time since I've been involved in playground antics. All I am saying is the match ammo I used just left a hole, no mess and hardly any blood. That for me was the one day I chose not to shoot at live quarry with bullets of such construction. Now carry on kids and don't bite. Lol
robbiep
When will you people stop discussing this in public, you have already escaped on section 5 regulation on various 'match' bullets by the skin of your teeth and various Police forces are asking dealers to consider them as section 5 already. Why do you think this is? ? ? ?? Er yes, shut up! 'Various police forces' can do/say whatever they like. The simple FACT is that you, or I, or absolutely anyone, can phone up McAvoy's, or Valley Arms, or one of dozens/hundreds of RFDs, and buy Amax bullets over the phone, and get them posted out to us. Or walk into the shop and collect the same. Until the Government re-classify them as expanding (and they go off the definitions supplied by the manufacturers) then that is NOT going to change. And if they do that, then they'll have to also look at all the 'proper' Match bullets (loads of which are HP, I wonder why ?), and test them all too, and see if they expand more than a certain amount, because ALL bullets will expand, the S.5 definition is for those that are DESIGNED to expand. I'm damn sure that a 308 match bullet, if fired into the shoulder blade of a red stag, would expand massively. Does that mean it should be S.5 ? Bewsher500
why pick them up face to face at all!? £2.80 postage or god knows how much in petrol? no brainer, no FAC, no silly questions my last box travelled 400 miles to my door think people are making this harder than it needs to be, if you are there and someone wants to scribble in the FAC box...so what? still plenty of people selling them online!
