sun or shade

Do pigeons prefer to eat in the sun or in the shade. Was just wondering where it would be better to place my decoys

I'm not sure whether they have a preference, but I would always advise trying to place decoys where they can be easily seen by pigeons on the wing.

From my humble observations eighty percent sun, as Motty says it allows your pattern to show up on sunny days. When it is cloudy it makes no difference as you can place your pattern where you want the birds be in or out of shade.

Agreed, the sun should make the white wing and neck markings more visible, I'm told UV is important.

In my experience it's never a good idea to have your decoy patern in the shadow of a tree line or tree, I've found the birds are far more reluctant to commit to your patern if this is the case....others may say different but I'm a very strong believer on this.

I was hoping so, thats where i have been putting them. Plus my FUD decoys say UV on the box. And i must say the FUDs really do work the pigeons will happily feed next to them.

I agree its best to set your decoys in the sun , but I like to put the magnet in the shade if there is any close to the decoys. Even the best of magnets can flash in bright sunlight , but the problem is solved in the shade.

Don't like shooting in or on a sunny day prefur dull windy days but when I do go out I tend to put the decoys in the sun
