Dougy
This was a bit of testing done for long range stuff, I was actually fine tuning an App i use for drops. I put a 6" gong out at 630 and was hitting it consistently, well i missed twice out of 8 shots. I put it down to incorrect windage. It was hard to tell on the gong so I decided to put 2x A2 (16.5 x 23.25 ish)sheets out and taped a X on. Had the 3 shots above, I was impressed with the elevation put the spread I am sure is down to shooter error, trigger technique I am sure will correct that and an improved shooting position. Also added to this having Zeroed at just 100yds that short a distance would not show up if I was slightly out on my original Zero, so i will go out to a 200 yrd Zero, that should show any discrepancies a bit more. I had a pop at a couple of crows out to just over 600 1 I caught on video and looking back at it when I got home that was one lucky crow
robbiep
Impressive shooting ! I wouldn't be surprised if the lateral was down to wind, and the zero was dead on. Doesn't take much of anything to send a bullet 6 inches sideways at that distance. What calibre ?
Doggone
Good shooting, what calibre and bullet weight is it? Andy Edited May 27, 2015 by Doggone
Mentalmac
Nice one Dougy, good shooting. Won't be long until you can get the 704 yard hare :-)
Dougy
Assumptions Its a Remington 260 140 Amax. The wind reading was 3mph or less,I realized I had not put enough windage on for that, but the lateral grouping I am sure will shrink with a little improvement on trigger pull and my position behind the rifle. mentalmac, My aim is to knock that record off this planet once and for all
Dougy
You should get out on the moors with me and chrisv sometime Definitely Now I am sussing out the drops, and the load is OK I will get my butt up there, just let me know when and I will get the time off PS ( I dont want any wind though )

LeadWasp
I did buy a 12" plate yesterday though I've got a 3m x 1.5m sheet of hardox landing at my workshops next week! Is it an open invitation to Diggle? Nice one Dougy by the way - is that done on the hills where you shoot ? Dougy
As the elevation seems to be spot on I need to practice on the windage. But not really in too difficult circumstances like you can get at Diggle. Last time I went I fluffed up by altering the windage the wrong direction (muppet) that was at a 1000 yard target lol I was amazed I didn't hit a 4x4 that was parked near the butt's lol

LeadWasp
Give me the coordinates and I'll have a go. Lol Stay well clear though umm - about 2 clicks lower than Portsmouth from yours. Not sure about wind tho'......usually it's the chickpeas that do it! I'll take cover behind me telehandler now that some kind soul has turned it into junk by running it over with a 40ton slew! under 3&1/2 inches at 650 is nice work - all on the same level....is the rest wind? Trigger would pull you to 2 o'clock (RH) or 11 o'clock (LH) wouldn't it? +1 for 260REM! Edited May 27, 2015 by LeadWasp
LeadWasp
Well its not Diggle, this is moorland shooting with a friend of mine up in the lakes. Im sure for the correct 'crowd', an odd invite will be opened to specific friends. Especially those with Hardox aha! tea at Tebay! I was going to cut out some roe deer bucks on the plasma table with gongs fitted for the boiler room, low neck and head shots too.
welshwarrior
Nice shooting Dougy glad you getting happy with the 260 now. IHMO it's the great thing about long range shooting it shows every fault in style and technique.
maxwell
I find a splash of white emulsion freshens my hardox targets up and doesn't flake when hit. Doughy my shooting buddy Si loves the 140's in his 6.5, very good BC
LeadWasp
Dont bother with gongs for the kill zones, its easier just to respray occasionally and use the spare steel for more gongs at different ranges Dougy - sorry to hijack your thread for a bit longer.... gongs on kill zones - it just struck me that for more 'commercial' shooting set-ups you can't see the exact impact after a few people have shot the things. The gongs would save repainting during a furious session and you could still see a shot in the right place when the gong moves. After you've cut a deer out of steel plate you have lots of off cut left ......and I like re-inventing the wheel (I have a cracking design for one with rounded corners) . Dougy
LeadWasp, not a problem for me, its all about discussion . If you want to have a think about my idea for LR gongs how about a square one not a solid piece but strips of hardox cut into say 2" strips, for example 5 x 2" strips 8" long. (not square i know)Mounting would take more thoughts from your end regarding the strengths of the mounting method. But strikes would be spotted either left-right or center depending on the impact point or which strip was swinging, it wouldn't matter if it was white pink or gold plated you would still spot the impact point better. You could even round off the bottom corners if you felt it would improve the look
Bewsher500
I had an 8" hardox with a 2" centre cut out Am going to hinge the centre to flip up when hit, ideally with a marker extra points if I can blow it off its hinges!....
