Dash cam

Been thinking of getting one for a while and after nearly getting wiped out by a loon undertaking me as I was changing lanes on the M4 today (he must have been going 110mph+!) I think it's time to get one..

Thinking of spending £150 max, hoping for HD, decent night vision, wide angle view and for it to be fairly discreet as I don't want to keep removing it.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks

This keeps cropping up and everytime I recommend the Mobius Action Cam

For £45 you will not get better

Its tiny

Its as good as a GoPro - actually its better cause you can use it as a dashcam and not a fashion accessory

It turns on and off with your ignition

I have no idea what more anyone would want...

Check the reviews by a chap in Manchester on YouTube - http://youtube.com/techmoan

I think he is fond of the mini 0801 model. Just beware there are many fakes around

I bought the new version 1296p,with GPS,i have it hard wired in and set so the screen goes of within a minute (you need to put a bit of tape over tyhe blue light though as it draws you eye).Cracking pice of kit,but be aware ther are loads of coppies out there.

What's the loop time on these IE, how long before it records over itself again?

I've got a Mobius and for the £45 it is absolutely amazing. You get a small and compact camera with a HD picture and the standard lens angle is more than antiquate for driving. You can get a free program to configure it on your PC or android or apple. The loop time depends on your micro SD card size but with my 32GB I usually get around 4.5 hrs with sound.

I was going to hard wire it to the car but have been to lazy so far and just plug it in to the ciggie lighter with auto power on.

Have already caught loads of incidents on mine :good:

***a major advantage is that it is small and will fit behind my interior mirror***

Are they wide angle so it covers the whole road ahead, kerb to kerb?

This is the standard A lens but you can get a wide angle B lens. I think the A more than covers it, I could turn the camera a bit further left but personally that's good enough for me. I was trying to download a vid but the files are so big!!

I've just taken a pic of the PC monitor with phone so quality is nowhere near as good but gives you an idea of field of view. The camera is located just to the left of centre on a 2013 Ford Focus.

Dash cams are proving excellent evidence in our collision investigation especially as a lot of trucks have them these days. Sadly, you generally get what you pay for, with a few exceptions.

Thanks for all the replies guys :good:

Going to have a good look at techmoan, so thanks for the link aris. The Mobius looks great too, and a bit cheaper, thanks for the pic Livefast123, that's perfectly wide enough I think.

Thanks again!

I have a cheap £8 china one. no need for night vision as you have your lights on. unless you want it running 24/7 even when car is parked up. mine turns on when engine starts and off when engine is off. a 8gig card records in 5 minute chunks and then saves, this way its smaller files.

does all i need, sits behind the rear view mirror. records 1080p, or so it says.

Does the mobius camera trigger if someone hits your parked car? Or just when you're on the move with the engine on?

Yes, it has a motion detection setting that you can put on for car parks although I haven't bothered

Yes, easily. I took the above photo on my laptop screen with a cruddy 4S camera. Video output is full 1080
