Well thanks for all the help folk, I really really appreciate the advice :yes:

I have decided to go with some Plastic chain and a bit of bailing twine, after all it will only be me shooting at the Gongs, and Its unlikely I will do any missing.

So thanks again all the Catton and Garland boy's :lol:

Sparkie, Alix said you owe him money, Alix said if we don't turn up, the interest on your debt increases big time.

my brother shot the chain off a gong I made he thought it was very funny

it would be nice to get some hardened chain to stop his fun

It will take some doing to stop the links from breaking if taking a direct hit form most center fire. There comes a point that its just not practicable to go too big on the chains or for that matter too expensive.

Dougy if you can wait until the next Garlands I'll bring you some 10mm chain retired from one of my rigs - might be a bit rusty 'cos it's been to the bottom of the sea but 10mins in a cement mixer with some rags and it'll be shiny again. Seriously tho' it's in good nick.....................

Do I smell a first order for a 3' hardox gong................?

Well you always get a heat affected zone where ever a hot cutting method is applied. It is bound to affect the heat treatment of the hardox. The only solution would be water jet cutting but that adds a lot to the price and availability. Let's put it this way, I get a lot of stainless cut for the subsea industry but I always end up saying ***!! every time I get a water jet quote back. Would people pay for the difference? They'll pimp the death out of a 10/22 then moan about the price of a HMR ammunition having shot a couple of hundred cartridges a week at pigeons.

Apart from fragment hazards and ragged targets is it really a big deal - genuine question? Surely the idea is to hit the middle :good: (Dougy)

Or is it just you're shooting 20mm Finnish anti-tank rifles at them Chris  (I have a tungsten .55 Boyes APCR round that would get Sparkie drooling but he'd have to give me a small island state in return)
