Euget123
Hornady manual shows h110@ Start load 7.9 gr for 3200 ft/s Max load 9.5 gr for 3600 ft/s This is second hand information so il be working up very slowly and carefully! Appatently the factory ammo runs about 3550 not 3650 listed!il check this myself this week. All i want is to get close to factory accuracy and speed, minute of bunny is good enough for me. ET Edit to say,the new hornady manual does not list lil gun as a suitable powder! Edited June 15, 2015 by Euget123

phaedra1106
Edit to say,the new hornady manual does not list lil gun as a suitable powder! Use the powder manufacturers online data, it's always more up to date. Hodgdon list Lil'gun for 17 Hornet & Ackley Hornet and 22 Hornet & K Hornet
steve_b_wales
I don't know which powder to get, either H4198 or H110. H110 uses 3grn less of powder for just over 100fps less. I can live with that, although the Crows won't.
phaedra1106
Both are very good powders, if you have any rifles in larger calibres the H4198 has a wider range of uses than the H110.

Also, its a shame that we all can't swop small amounts of powder to try in our reloads. I'm going to pay around £44 for a tub of powder which I hope will work for me. Euget123
Update! Managed to get out with the chrono this afternoon! Results as follows Factory 1: 3430 fps F2: 3437 F3: 3444 Reloads: 8.5 gr lilgun(1.2 gr below hodgun MINIMUN) C.O.L 1.715 Once fired brass CCI 400 small rifle primer R1: 3474 R2: 3465 R3: 3488 R4: 3506 R5:3494 Suprised with velocity myself expected it to be down. No pressure signs at this charge weight and deadly accurate @ 100 yards, will check it out a bit further out over nxt few days. Not sure weather to run with these and use tub of powder.all seems ok now but dont want a twitchy one hurting me or the rifle when out in the field. Thoughts appreciated, ET

I use Lilgun (12gr) with .22 Hornet pushing 45g bullet with good results. I going to try a few .17 Hornet with Lilgun to see what results I can get. I've also got a tub of H4198 powder coming, and will try and work a good load to suit my rifle.
casts_by_fly
You're pushing top end velocity with that combination, so that tells me you probably have a tight chamber or a short throat (unless you somehow have really thick brass). I wouldn't worry about being well under book. I would load up a box and go shooting. Keep an eye on primers during hot days. Rick

steve_b_wales
I am hoping to zero my .17 Hornet on Saturday. The range will be 150 yards, and I will also test them through a chronograph. I will be using Hornady Superformance 20gr Vmax.
Euget123
I no it says 3650 on box! But thats what factory 20 gr vmax are getiing in the real world!(unless the chrono is of) Dnt think a few hundred fps really makes to much of a difference out to 200 yards! Had heard there a bit dwn loaded on a few foroms! Will maybe get a chance and do some groups with the reliads oclver the weekend! ET

zx10mike
well i got up at 4am whilst the wind was 1-3 mph and shot some factory ammo.first 2 shots bang on where i left it last time but then things wondered.i suspect my rifle groups .25 high and .50 left of zero with a cold clean bore as i had to re zero.i was not blown away by accuracy as it was no better than hmr ammo but this is factory ammo in a factory rifle the whole point is to get the best out of it re loading.here is a pic of how it went and would like your thoughts.i did check barrel is free floated. mike
