Get a fired shell and seat a bullet in it to the correct OAL without powder or primer. now get a HD pencil, (one with a eraser fixed on, was going to say rubber but I don't need the jokes) Shave it so it fits tightly into the primer socket. Glue it in place and cut it level and you have a snap cap.

Too soft.

The pin slaps into the face of the breech unlike a CF where it goes in line with the barrel - after a while the RF firing pin piens (spelling?) and can also cut a notch in the breech face

As he says but it can be checked for protrusion first

I don't but it won't do any harm

Why don't I? Because I have some snap caps and they are easy and cheap to obtain

Any firing pin that comes to an abrupt stop by dry firing will work harden, and eventually break .Using an old case is dangerous because one day it will be a live round .I have had rifles for 30 years and never had a reason to dry fire ,it's very Jonny Rambo .
