kiffy
While on the look out for a new larger gun safe recently, i came across the Buffalo River Diamond Line range. The 14 gun seemed like a half tidy safe for the money, quite a bit cheaper than the Sentry Safe I wanted but better quality and more importantly a different locking system to the Buffalo River Gold Line safes that quite a few people had issues with. Try as I did to find photos of the interior, all i could find was the same stock images on all the websites that sold it... I hate buying something without knowing what i'm buying especially when its over five hundred quid so thought now I had one I would post photos incase anyone else was thinking of getting the same safe. The lighting isnide does not come with it, its something I installed using 12v LED tape and when i fit it a switch like a fridge door so the light goes off when the doors closed For anyone interested in my thoughts on the safe, early days as ive only just recieved it but it seems pretty good for the money.. build quality and finish although very nice are not quite upto that of my old BSA safe but that was the best finished safe I have seen. the keypad system is brilliant and one of the main reasons i went for this safe but i do have some concerns over the life span of the print on the keys as if it wears it will reveal the numbers used (although not the order their pressed) but im guessing thats the case for all keypad operated safes and i know from looking into it that changing the keypads an easy enough operation or even easier I could change the password Anyone who knows me knows how tight I am, so when looking for a new safe spent ages looking for the best deal I could get. I found 'Emma Custom Rifles' in Durham who did a cracking deal and were lovely to deal with. If interested give Rob a ring on 07802 346202. I cant reccomend them enough. this is how it was delivered, kerb side delivery only... weighs 95kg so you will need help getting it in shelf on top right of safe is removale to fit longer guns, at the moment until i extend the shelf I have had to remove it to get my semi-auto in. here it is with the removable shelf in place here you can see the LED tape i used to illuminate it, the lead and connector on the back is for the removable shelf, I can unplug it to remove the shelf.. when I build up the bottom of the shelf an inch to fit my semi-auto the cable will be tight and out of the way heres the inside of the lock box... carpet lined as the rest of the safe is. At the moment the action of my trap gun is in there waiting for the woodwork to come back from the refinisher Edited June 21, 2015 by kiffy
steve_b_wales
Very nice. I would like to get an 18 gun one instead of the 4 seperate ones I have now, but finding a place to install it is proving a problem.
kiffy
i was lucky, i measured the gap i had in my spare room and it fitted with less than a quarter of an inch to spare... no chance of getting 14 guns in it especially if their scoped but i didnt buy it for that, i just didnt want my current guns crammed in as they were in my old safe (BSA 6 gun in sales section now) Edited June 21, 2015 by kiffy
Mutiny
How many scoped guns do you think it would comfortably hold?
kiffy
just incase anyones interested... i modified the shelf by cutting some wood down to 1 3/4 inch high, covered it with the loose piece of fabric that was on the base of the lock box and screwed it to the bottom of the shelf. this has now given me plenty of room to get my semi-auto in and if i do say so myself looks pretty damn good as mentioned in the post above the loose wire seen hanging down is now out of the way i have also fitted a push to break switch to the door jam of the safe so when the door is closed the lights switch off... just like your fridge.. as can be seen in the photo i did scuff the frame with the drill (bloody idiot!) but i have since taking the photo touched it up and it cant be seen now Edited June 21, 2015 by kiffy
kiffy
How many scoped guns do you think it would comfortably hold? havet put a scoped gun in yet but will have a nose and let you know. the shelf that holds the guns in place would be easy enough to remake to suit other guns, i have a pair of side by sides that dont slot in properly so i may end up making one
kiffy
How many scoped guns do you think it would comfortably hold? wouldnt take a scoped gun, or at least it wouldnt take my wolverine with an x-sight on it, which to be fair is pretty bloody big and wouldnt take my two side by sides as the slots are made for single barrels or an over/under and i bought it knowing this so i made some mods... they call it a 14 gun but as expected theres no way 14 would fit unless their thrown in, well not unless their all little .410's so using an offcut of mdf that was in a skip near work, some scrounged spray glue and some fabric i bought from ebay for a few quid which amazingly is the same stuff they used i made a more suitable shelf... room for two side by sides and two more on the left, room for three on the right that are not to cramped together especially for my semi-auto that has a large aftermarket bolt and room for my wolverine in the middle. im no expert with wood by any means so cobbled this together, the mdf was to thin so i cut it in half and glued them together, measure it all up and covered it in fabric and its perfect for my needs.. took me an hour and sliced my thumb when trimming the fabric but it suits me perfectly
Cawdor118
How did you wire the lighting mate? Is it a kit of eBay or something?
kiffy
nah, on the whole ebay led tape is awfull, irregular quality and unreliable... its a 12volt high power (120 led per meter) that we use in work which is about £10 a meter. i drilled a small hole in the back for the power, soldered / heatsrunk all conenctions and stuck it on, then used a hot glue gun to fix the wiring inside the safe... the only thing from ebay was the switch as i couldnt find a suitable one in work and to be honest the switch is awfull quality but for the time being it works.. as it came from work all it cost me was just over a quid for two switches Edited July 15, 2015 by kiffy
Capt Carrot
Any chance of a link to the led stuff your work gets? I've not been impressed with the eBay stuff...
phaedra1106
I looked at the 14 gun cabinet and found there was no way I'd get my scoped rifles in it so bought one of their 10 gun silver line cabinets instead. I could do with modifying the gun rest so it comes further out from the back but it does the job for now. For lighting I got a pair of magnetic 24 LED cluster lights off Amazon for under £5, some cheap Alkaline batteries from Ikea (10 for £1 and decent quality) and fitted one in the rifle cabinet and the other in the shotgun cabinet. Sorry about the quality of the photo.
