ShootingEgg
Local golf course have seen them around the lakes and have asked how to remove them. What would the PW massives thoughts on best way? Traps or shoot. Baring in mind golfers will see traps possibly.
robbiep
Shooting them isn't really practical. You could be there for days on end and not see them close enough, or with a decent backstop. Trapping is certainly the way to go, in my opinion. If golfers seeing the traps is an issue, then that's an issue that the committee / members need to sort out before you start on the job. CharlieT
MK6 fen trap is the way to go. The trap inside a wooden tunnel fixed to a raft will be safe and not seen, particularly if you use some grass or small twigs ascamo.

LeadWasp
I think (hope) I may be right in saying that before you place traps you have to positively ID mink - using a clay pad in the tunnel - to stay within the law. Just a heads up. Can other confirm/refute this?

Alycidon
Unusual to see one except sometimes at night, I have shot a couple with a rifle in a lamp over the years. Personally I would trap, long tunnel, two number 6 Fens and a smelly bait between them. A

Just a heads up. Can other confirm/refute this? There is no requirement to monitor prior to trapping. The only requirement when using spring traps is to adhere to the Spring Trap Approval Order 1995 which states: Fenn Vermin Trap Mark VI (Dual Purpose) manufactured by or under the authority of Mr A A Fenn of FHT Works, Hoopers Lane, Astwood Bank, Redditch, Worcestershire and specified in British Patent Specification No. 763,891, and Springer No. 6 Multi-purpose manufactured by or under the authority of AB Country Products Ltd., Troy Industrial Estate, Jill Lane, Sambourne, Near Ashwood Bank, Redditch, Worcestershire. The traps shall be used only for the purpose of killing or taking grey squirrels, mink, rabbits, stoats, weasels, rats, mice and other small ground vermin (except for those species listed in Schedule 5 and 6 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981) and set in natural or artificial tunnels which are, in either case, suitable for the purpose.
