rodp
More to the point, and what you're all forgetting, how do they know it needs drums from an MOT inspection ? All they've done so far is put it on the rollers. They're just trying to rip you off, wasn't Halfords was it? dealers are the biggest rip off merchants on this planet !!!! go onto euro car parts web site enter the reg number and you,ll get a shock at ho w much they trying to rip you for . the price aside why do the drums need changing ?? you cant strip them off in a mot test as no dismantling is allowed so that 1 smells iffy straight away Ha, great minds think alike
Benellimelody
Again, thanks for the comments. Well, I am hectic at the minute n the other half doesn't want any time wasted in fixing this😒...... Anyways took to a decent local garage and has said it definitely doesn't need new drums, just new pads and the build up of **** removing. The mirror was just an led component. He is in the process of quote..... I know everyone says he does a good job and is cheap..... The guy was appalled with the price
ferguson_tom
Reminds me of my wifes fiat 500, on the first annual inspection we were told the brakes pads had worn 30% and the advised us to replace them. My wife got all panicky until i told her of the other 70% left on the pads that would do the stopping thing just as well. My point being never trust main dealer with a womens car they really do try ripping them off....not trying to sound sexist but its funny how the changed their tune when i went in to pick it up. As others have said find a local garage you trust there are a lot of honest decent mechanics out there who understand their business comes from looking after customers for year after year not just try ripping them off for the one sale. Livefast123
I took my car for it's first service at the local Ford stealership and as normal I had checked the tyres etc before taking it in. On my work provided calibrated tyre depth gauge the front tyres were measuring 5.5mm across the board. Imagine my surprise when I was told by the 18 year old girl on the desk that they had magically lost 2mm during the mechanics test drive and I should really consider getting them changed. When I asked why it differed so much from my professional measurement the problem seemed to vanish. Having worked in main dealers at the start of my career I hate using them, but it is just easier when the car is under warranty. A colleague had her car serviced under the block exemption and had a few problems at the end of the warranty and Ford gave her such a hard time having to prove that everything was up to spec including all the paperwork to be provided and invoices from the garage for parts that I'll take the extra hit on servicing and can't wait to get back doing it myself. Vince Green
The worst thing about main agent servicing is that things just get skipped.
Savhmr
The only main dealer I have ever had full confidence with is Lexus (Listers) who do a cracking job and provide spot on advice when needed. Although expensive, they offer discounts for their 3 year service plan. I'd never ever use a main ford dealer after my experiences with them...bunch of rip off merchants. Took a Focus in needing a service and new front brake discs (I'm not heavy on the brakes at all but one side had a warped disc). It came out with a new water pump fitted and new rear pads with no discs done because said it wasn't needed (truth is they forgot and made excuses). When I demanded to know why they'd changed the water pump, I was told it was leaking. Funny that the water had never needed topping up! Skoda dealers I've found almost as bad. I use our local specialist garage now and he provides better service at half the price of the main dealers and more importantly, is trustworthy. FarmerSim
stealership is the right answer. £340 for new drums and shoes !?!?!??! O/P:- Glad you went somewhere else - as Harnser said, rear drums do so little work, that it is almost always **** and Crud which causes a problem. Vince Green
When my ex wife's father died very suddenly she inherited his little Ford Fiesta. He had bought it new and always had it serviced at the main agent he bought it from, we had all the bills. For its first service under our ownership I took it to a mate of mine Gary who serviced all our cars and vans. He was pretty confident that the plugs were the factory originals and the oil filter had not been changed for a good long time. The trouble is how would you know whether the work had been done or not?
