Paddy Galore!
i'm selling my trusty mls100 Makita chopsaw to a young lad at work, saves him wearing it out and me having to replace the blade. I need to replace it with something similar, maybe a bit bigger. is there a large, non sliding, double bevel mitre saw out there? recommendations please... ta, Paddy. Paddy Galore!
I already have a big ole dewalt that slides, I want something smaller and lighter for skirting and architrave, preferably a double bevel so I don't have to keep turning the saw around to cut the other way
Shropshire_Lad
Fair enough, I was going to say the Dewalt sliding as mine has been great but no need to tell your gran how to suck eggs lol.
digger
Festool. I think ITS have a deal on at the moment. Just got a twin pack 18v drill and impact driver with free radio and two batteries for £150. Always worth ringing them as that deal was meant to be finishes
Paddy Galore!
and they are a fantastic saw! mine is 15 yrs old and still going strong, but i'd rather not lug it over a site that resembles a Beirut side street and then up a few flights of stairs. it also needs a bit more room to accommodate the sliding rails, which is difficult in a corridor, to then be tripped over by a dopey painter/electrician/plumber/labourer/site agent Festool. digger
One of our chippies bought the Bosch last week. I'm on site with him doing 2nd fix tomorrow so I'll see what it's like. I've ordered one of those work benches from screwfix that pop up in 20 seconds and a new circular saw. Oh and a hitachi jig saw. Grab the ITS catalogue - I love a bit of tool porn. AVB
Why are they called chop saws? They look like circular saws. Is there a difference?
bud 20
I use the 7in Makita slider, would not part with it, also have 10in Makita, only use in shed now. In my opinion you cant beat Makita
digger
AVB - a circular saw is generally a movable hand held saw for cutting sheet materials. Cordless or corded it's run through the material. A chop saw is fixed and the blade is plunged / pulled through the material I. e. its bench mounted
Shropshire_Lad
Why are they called chop saws? They look like circular saws. Is there a difference? Yes there is. A circular saw is mostly used for ripping/ cutting wood along the grain. A chop/mitre saw is used for cross cutting and mitering .
rovercoupe
Yes there is. A circular saw is mostly used for ripping/ cutting wood along the grain. A chop/mitre saw is used for cross cutting and mitering . Chop saw = saw for cutting steel Mitre saw = fixed to base for wood Circular saw = good for cutting fingers off with! You soon learn to call them the right thing when you tell the new lad to cut some wood and they use a chop saw and smoke the place out! STOTTO
although that bosch with the fancy glide arm looks the tits... My understanding of an issue with the Bosch Glide is the limited depth of cut!
