meady638
Thanks very much. I didnt know the differences as there are so many variation on the 686 and its hard to know what the difference is between a 686 and a 686 special
DrBob
IMHO one of the best Berettas ever. Don't quote me, but I think the S686Spec was an upgraded spec, a bit like a limited edition model, produced for a few years in the early Eighties. Built when Beretta made 'em properly, lovely balance and handling, reliable and sought after. I've a twenty bore and absolutely love it. If in halfway decent nick, you paid a fair price, they can go for more, look on Guntrader. Nice gun.
meady638
The Dr Bob, I knew the farmer so think it was friends rates. In your opinion would it be better than the original 686 silver pigeon?
DrBob
Yes. Comparing side by side, it's that little bit better engraving, feels lighter too. The designation means "Special Sporting", there is another thread on this site. Look up "beretta 686 special s" on PW
welshwarrior
Loads of models varied year by year but conditions is the main thing. It's one of the best berettas made better than a modern sp1 IMHO.
CharlesP
You may even find if you take the stock off (one screw under the butt plate/recoil pad) that it has gold washed internal bits. I really like mine, it knocks spots off the modern Silver Pigeon things which although good, are not nearly the same quality. Well done, enjoy your new bargain.
