A couple of sightings of pigeons in Lincolnshire.

Driving back from the Cotswolds on Sunday I saw pigeon activity on a field of bean stubble about fifteen miles from home. Yesterday I returned to see exactly what was going on and I was amazed to see over a thousand pigeons feeding and flying between three stubbles. Another bird a minute at least joined them. I made enquiries locally and eventually found the farm house. The owner was out but I left a card with his wife and texted the farmer later. A pleasant reply but a refusal none the less on the grounds that others already shoot the farm. Dash. There is a big day there for someone.

Today between home and Louth I saw over three hundred pigeons on a turned over bean stubble. I watched for a while and lots joined from all directions. I have asked to get on this farm before but was refused. Nearby game covers and pheasants all over the place made my decision not to pursue this opportunity further an easy one.

Welcome to the farmers in the south east of England. I have seen a farmer sending up rockets to shift pigeons and spoken to him about shooting them. The standard reply is that he has shooters (are they doing their job??), usually followed by "I have just called him and he's coming tomorrow". I watch the field the next day, blue with pigeons..........

I have also been given the Bum's Rush by a Keeper from a field I have permission to shoot because " the pheasants are coming in next week and I want it to be nice and quiet"!!!!!!!!!!!
