spandit
I want a ball and pin hitch for the back of the Suzuki to provide a recovery point and a means of towing trailers with eyes (although unfortunately, none of the normal ones seems big enough for a NATO eye so my Sankey will be up for sale soon - not that the Jimny is probably suited to it anyway :( )There seem to be 2 types, ones with a separate pin and ball:and ones where the ball forms the end of the pin: Wondering which type is best Edited October 28, 2015 by spandit
Paul223
My preference would be separate
ferguson_tom
Personally would only use the combined bottom one for moving trailers around a yard or something. When being used as a towball you get lateral movement due to the gap between the bottom jaw and the securing pin. Go for the top one, a lot better design. If you wanted to keep the sankey the other option is a dixon bate type arrangement with the quick change over brackets.
la bala
You can buy a Sankey hitch.
scutt
sankey hitch is good for very rough terrain as it can swivel lessening stresses on the eye and hitch but for road and farm ruts then the first hitch two piece type is my choice . shoot and be safe
Go for the separate option. Make sure you have the pin in (not sure if it's a legal requirement or recommendation) when towing with the ball and keep it in the vehicle when not, they go missing very easily. spandit
First type it is then. Mounting a NATO hitch to the Jimny wouldn't be practical, especially as the hitch is so low. Sankey was great behind the Landy and Pinzgauer but it's really heavy and I think the Suzuki would struggle...
