12g reloading

Recommended Posts

You would struggle to reload a 1000 at that price. If you made your own lead shot and could buy the raw lead at £1kg you would be able to do a 1000 at around the £180 mark. Its not about the cost so much but more to do with making what you want rather than having to buy what the shop wants to sell you..

Your miles out

1000 wads £18

28 kg shot £72

1.3 kg powder £38

1000 primers. £24

That's £152 0per 1000

Now use reclaimed shot

1000 wads. £18

28 kg reclaimed shot £42

1.3 kg powder. £38

Primers from cut offs £15

That's £113 per 1000

The cheapest possible

Homemade shot £28

Harpen wads. £12

Powder from cut offs £18

Primers from cut offs £10

That's £68 per 1000

I now not every one has cut offs but this is how cheap it can be if you can get lead from your builder mates you could load for £40 per 1000

The average man in the street buys 1 lb powder and 500 wads 1000 primers

You have to buy in bulk to make it cheap and shop around

Like 1 ton of lead ,15 kg of powder, 9600 primers ,10000 wads

The £152 price is the equivalent of Hull soverine or Rc 4 , express World Cup

Is that for fibre wads as quoted in my post?

  • 2 months later...

ours works out at approx £96 per 1000 thats what John worked it out at..

we make our own lead shot

all the lead is given to us by a mate who is a roofer.

I have been thinking of starting to make my own shot but cannot get hold of the wheel weights. They're all bloody zinc now. What do you add to the lead to harden it up?

We have some antimony that we bought a couple of years ago we use that never used wheel weights.

A couple of times when we made some lead we forgot to put any in and just used the roofing lead my mate gives me for nothing still seems to work ok
