spinach
She's 14 months. First time she's taken the initiative. Guess the work starts now? John.
old'un
Not sure of what it is you are asking "Anyone know of a good technique of teaching a stop whistle!!" is the dog trained/part trained to the stop whistle or are you just starting to train with stop whistle?"So glad when she came back!!!!!" does the dog run off then? ShootingEgg
As for the stop whistle, teach her to sot to the whistle. So say sit then blow whistle straight away. Then slowly remove the word sit.. Associated the whistle with the command to sit.
JDog
You should probably keep your dog away from the shooting field this season.
bigbird
JDog sounds harsh but he doesn't mean to be and I would tend to agree and only out of concern for your sanity and the dog's continued training You risk a lifetime of a beautifully trained super dog that's a pleasure to have around and could end up with a dog that isn't trained and ruins every shoot day for you and others. Hope you see what I mean
WGD
14 months, no brakes and from the sounds of things a dodgy recall. Forget working the dog this season, spend your time training.
spinach
It wasnt that bad she ran and took a heart stoping 30 seconds before coming back smiling. She comes out on a leash for one drive then back to the wagon. She may get a flush back away from the guns and never with many birds about. She's a dog for next season but this year I wanted her to get used to the noises and turmoil. Today she was perfect even backing off when we were bird heavy. Though the fact remains I'm lacking in training the stop whistle. Thanks for all your concern it was mainly a humorous follow up about " pride comes before a fall" Love and hope John.
