LEFTY478
Mrs Lefty & me started shotgun shooting in Jan this year and I've just added up what we've spent! 2 x guns, vests, slips, insurance, hats, glasses, cart bag, lessons, cleaning kits, SGC's. Plus ammo, clays, gun safe & key safe. We've done £3.5k and I haven't even included bacon butties and mugs of tea. I daren't even mention a new SUV and a gun dog to the wife, yet. JohnGalway
Are you nuts Lefty?!?! Don't you remember the first and golden rule of shooting. Never, ever, ever add up the cost of what it costs, it's a serious health risk especially for people with weak heart conditions!

Yeah but just think you wont need to buy slips, guns, vests, glasses, lessons and safes again for a while (if ever!) so discount all that then not to bad. I like to view these things as assets, that way it isn't so bad and you only ever pay the depreciation per year. Much "kinder" way of looking at shooting/golf. oozelumbird
Just enjoy it i think, but it does get expensive when your wife starts clay shooting too. My 1000 carts a month lasted 2 weeks, especially as she likes 2 shoots per bird on DTL. Shooting is an addiction, but it does not give you cancer so i just say to the mrs, look i either smoke or shoot!.

Mungler
We did a rough mental calculation on the cost of shooting when waiting around at the Essex Masters. It is shocking, very shocking. But, if it is you one and only vice it is all very permissable. Just don't drink, smoke, gamble, womanise or lust after nice cars as well. Well I am expecting £60 for cert(s), £200 for the farmers AYA (its old but fits nice), £500 for FAC Airgun/rf (should i choose to go fac too ) £170 for the gunsafe, another £200 for decoys, hides, calls, etc then another £300 for a year's carts and clays (dont plan on shooting many clays and hopefully use the trap at the farm) so probably around £1500. which will be 10% of my salary BEFORE tax next year, thank god for houseshares and only having to buy all that lot once (except carts & clays)

njc110381
I don't drink or smoke, so spend my cash on shooting. I doubt I've gone much over £2k since I started 4 months ago
pin
Shooting is nothing compared to my (previous/other/might get back in to it one day) hobby. Flying model planes and helicopters costs a sodding fortune in comparison. By way of example I added up what I have sat in my workshop, in engines alone (that's just glow and petrol, excluding electrics) and it came to £4k - on that alone. Shooting, by comparison, doesn't cost that much at all. So in some odd way I am saving money, some how
