WelshAndy
I have a stock of 2 inch cartridges some are marked what size they are some aren't. I'm guessing the 15/16 oz equates to 26.5g - the 2.5 dram I have no idea. Also I have some Eley ones which only has the shot size, 6 or 7. Would they be the same weight as the others?! Would the 2 inch cartridge have a standard charge? Thanks in advance
wymberley
Eley's traditional 2" load was 7/8oz - 25 g. 2.5 drams equates to 4.43g or 68.37 gr. Bearing in mind I know nothing about shotgun charge weights and with the reference to the USA on the packaging, could that be the answer? Edit: Please don't tell us that another gun in the cabinet was a 2" Purdey! Edited January 27, 2016 by wymberley
Lord Geordie
Is Dram not the powder charge?
Underdog
It is an old way of describing the power level of the cartridge. The power level equal to so many drams of black powder. A dram is around 27grns of black powder. Early smokeless powders were designed around duplicating black powder in performance. U.

matone
Would guess the Express were loaded for USA as they still use dram equivalent to denote loadings.

Feltwad
The black powder load was 2.5 drms to 15/16 oz of shot was the volume load. On the old bulk loads of nitro powder such has Greenbat and Clermonite the same dram measure was used ,in the past I have loaded many 2 inch cases with both black and bulk nitro but you have to cut down on the wad thickness between the powder and the shot.
