DannyS
Hi everyone, Just need some advise. The above gun....worth wasting my money on? Does anyone have much experience with Crosman or even that model ? I didn't really want to have to spend a lot of money but it will be used on rabbits and squirrels in the garden so want to make sure ts accurate enough out of respect. Didn't really fancy going for a springer as have two currently and they seem terribly unaccurate, more than likely down to me but I have done a lot of practicing with them and they still seem to group like a shotgun. It may not have helped that i didnt spend a great deal on them. I did end up getting an ok grouping with one, but that was only when throwing it. All comments welcome and If anyone could suggest a better alternative it would be much appreciated too. ATB
Bluebarrels
Ive had a couple and more than adequate at sensible ranges of despatching small vermin However imho I think you need to fit a silencer/Mod to tone the noise down(red tipped silencer) And I found quite a lot of variation on pressure due to temperature with it using co2 capsules But to be honest some good break barrels about for little money, and would serve you for your purpose. amateur
It is always worth doing a search on here to find opinions on any gun. This thread was a couple of days ago http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/330766-crossman-ratcatcher/ I have the ratbuster pistol, which is perfectly competent to kill vermin at garden ranges. It is very noisy, so you need a good silencer. The ratcatcher is basically a longer barrelled version of the pistol, with a little more power as standard, but can be brought up to just less than 12 ft-lbs. The down-side, however with a CO2 gun is that the power varies with temperature, and what could be rated as legal on a cool day may put you over the top on a hot day! That is not a concern with a springer or a pcp. Just read BB's reply above - beat me to it!
bruno22rf
I have the latest model for sale if you're interested-2250xl I think-as new and still boxed-very accurate but too noisy for my type of shooting-looking for £100 + postage. youngratter
I have one, had it over 8years now. They are accurate with the right pellet and are plenty good enough for vermin upto 30yards
psycho
Get a springer more powerful You won't need silly cartridges and built to last. They are not powerful enough to cleanly get rabbits ..get a springer such as a hw99 or a 95 second hand otherwise you will get a ratcatcher and then sell it to buy a springer.. The build quality is rubbish The shot count rubbish Accuracy so up and down its rubbish Only good as a plinking gun for a kid
DannyS
Thanks for all your relies gentlemen. Sorry, i usually look before i post but didnt this time, i know it can be frustrating for the frequent repliers. Psycho, checked out the hw99 and 95 and you can get some really clean looking examples for a good price it seems. A lot of hw80's about are they just as good? Or are they an older model and a bit dated now? Thanks again.

DannyS
Hi Fenboy. Done some research and that seems to be the general consensus! I think the HW80 could be the winner. I've also seen a nice looking HW30s, are they just as good? Sorry for all the questions but there are sooo many models of HW I dont really know where to start or what the different ones mean. chrisjpainter
The only reason - and it is the only reason if you're looking at a springer - not to get a HW80 is weight. They're a bit heavy for my tastes, but that's it. They're first class as a shooter. Someone will correct me, but I think the HW30 is a junior gun and thus the power is lower? If you're looking for a break barrel, then the HW80 is the one to go for, or the lighter HW95.
fenboy
As above the HW80 is a heavy rifle , and if you are happy with that go for one , if not the HW95 gives the same full power at a lighter weight . The 99s is also worth a look or if you want a underlever the HW77 / 97 are both excellent guns , I have shot a 97 for a number of years now , again they are not light but I always think that's a good thing in a spring gun. DannyS
I don't mind a heavier gun to be honest, one of my other rifles is lighter and i seem to sway more with that than the heavier gun. Great! Thanks for all the info! Do any of you have a preference between .177 or .22?

Great! Thanks for all the info! Do any of you have a preference between .177 or .22? Over normal airgun range I have found both are as good as eachother upto 12ft/lb If you are considering a springer what about a bsa xl? Had one in..22 with an ox spring in and it was very handy upto 50yards should never have sold it Edited February 19, 2016 by youngratter
psycho
Hw 80 heavy Hw 95 all day carry .22 hard hitting .177 more penetrating longer range I prefer .22 in a springer others will say .177 you can't go wrong with either if you do target go .177 as the .22 makes a big hole Any hw is a great rifle that will last a lifetime do not go for a BSA such as a lightning the hw beat them in every way they also have the best trigger s ever made buy one second hand and it will hold its price forever new and as said will last forever and you will know its not been messed with I own a hw95 in .25 that's another calibre altogether Edited February 19, 2016 by psycho
