Alpha Mule
Team, I've just jumped into the self-loading club. I'm in South Wales (Bridgend) and am looking to buy primers, powder and bullets. I have cases aplenty. Can anyone suggest a supplier who wont have my arm off? I'm also a a bit overwhelmed with the different powders, which primers to use with what, weights, etc. I'd really appreciate some advice. I've only used hand loaded once and say the difference straight off. I'm reloading for .22-250. I'm looking to use between 50 and 55g, nothing stupidly fast. My Tikka isn't fussy about what I feed it, I use Fed's, Norma, Winnies, Hornady ballistic tips, but it is if anything even more accurate with PPU's I prefer to use ballistic tips as I don't like the over penetration I get with the Privi's. I have only the Lee loader kit, so don't need anything overly sophisticated and to stay in line with what I have without getting silly. I have a set of scales and calipers, but that's it. All advice welcome, but please keep the willy-waggling for another thread / site.
Bangbangman
Keen's Tackle and Guns are not far from you but phone ahead to check what they've got. 01656 720807 Aberkenfig, Bridgend CF32 9AP I'm further west than you, the following RFDs all sell reloading components but might be further than you want to go: Andy at Haylett Grange Shooting Supplies , Haverford West 01437764493 Ed at Western shooting supplies (Ammanford, by appointment) ed7.62@sky.com tel 01269 591826 / 07968 306084 A1Guns near Pontarddulais 01792885892 I don't reload 22-250 so can't advise on actual loads. Obviously you should get a reloading manual and read it, then work up loads accordingly.

swingit
South and west county sports in Kenfig Hill is cheaper than Keens on reloading stuff.
steve_b_wales
South and west county sports in Kenfig Hill is cheaper than Keens on reloading stuff. They are on par with Keens. Just make sure they have the goods in stock before going there, as I have had many a wasted journey to pick up items which they said on the phone were in stock. Happy to give advice too. Alpha Mule
I was seriously unimpressed with South and West with the way that tried to sell me my 22-250. They screwed up, I ended up doing the work and they still took their cut. Keens treat me like the stuff I scrape off my boots after being in a field of sheep. Bangbangman
A1 don't sell reloading gear. I was in there last month and they said they'd have primers but I didn't ask about powder etc. I've previously had bullets off them, too. I was in there yesterday morning and can assure you that they haven't got any reloading gear but they may be stocking it in the near future. Ammunition wise, all they had yesterday were a small selection of .22rf, some v-max .17hmr and a single box of .22-250 (not sure what make). r1steele
"In all cases, phone ahead" would seem to be the order of the day +1. Didn't know about western in Ammanford, where about roughly?
steve_b_wales
"In all cases, phone ahead" would seem to be the order of the day! I've done it with Keens and South & West. Both said they had the item/s I wanted, in stock, but when I arrived, they didn't have them. Once instance was when I wanted 1000 large rifle primers. One of the shops said, 'Yes, we have loads here'. I went down, to find they only had 200. It cost me almost £8.00 in fuel!

Once instance was when I wanted 1000 large rifle primers. One of the shops said, 'Yes, we have loads here'. I went down, to find they only had 200. It cost me almost £8.00 in fuel! I've had this several times. "Yes we have that here" only to turn up and be messed about because they don't have it! They're also an absolute nightmare with getting things in, they will take payment or a deposit and then tell you "will be two weeks max" only for it to go on for several weeks or even 2-3 months! Absolute joke and I won't use them anymore out of principal unless desperate! Keens aren't anything special to be honest, arm chair experts and argued with me that you MUST use 100grain bullets on any deer in the country or it's illegal. Their advise is best ignored totally as they haven't a clue but at least when they told me they were having a delivery of rifle primers they actually did and didn't mess me around like the above! They screwed up, I ended up doing the work and they still took their cut. Keens treat me like the stuff I scrape off my boots after being in a field of sheep. I no longer go there for exactly this reason. Load wise in my CZ 22/250 I am using H4895, 33.5 grain powder with a 55 grain head
steve_b_wales
I play the three shops (Sportsman Guncenter, Keens, and South and West Sports, against each other. They are all around the same distance from my home. Whichever one quotes me the best price, AND, has it in stock, they get my trade.
