jam1e
Hi folks, I've done very well with my rifle reloading, but a mate of mine and, I want to start reloading/making our own 12 bore cartridges for pigeon shooting. However, I've no idea what the best powder or shot I should go for ?. Other than I want 6 size shot. Also, what weights of shot, and powder should I go for? And what do they cost? I've decided to go for a Lee Loader 2, for making them. Thanks. Just to add, were not doing it to save money against buying new cartridges. It's purely just to learn, and load our own. robbiep
Have a look at #### - some load data on there for free http://www.####.co.uk/loads1.htm Other than that, you could go on Clay & Game's website. They sell data sheets. There are plenty of reloaders on here too, and I'm sure some of them will be happy to share their data.

jam1e
Could someone tell me what the most popular 12 gauge reloading powder is? I'm not sure if other details are needed, but if so, we'll be going for 32 gram 6's. If after an idea of what powders give good velocity. Thanks

saddler
Herco as second choice, Unique if I can find it. Red Dot is also useful..... You NEED a good Shotshell Reloading Manual & READ it cover to cover. Lyman 5th Edition or the Rick Sapp book are my first choices.
sitsinhedges
Don't get too wrapped up with velocity. For 30grams of lead I would use Vectan AS and for 32gams A1.
jam1e
I was wondering what manual to get. Thanks for the replies folks. I'm be off shooting tomorrow weather permitting. But failing that, we'll be of to Norman Clarks, for the items. Cheers. Don't get too wrapped up with velocity. For 30grams of lead I would use Vectan AS and for 32gams A1. What should I be looking for as regards shotgun powder. Consistency, more than velocity? Cheers.
saddler
Norman will keep you right. One of the best RFDs out there!

You'll get consistency with a decent recipe anyway. An recipe that is doing a real life 1200-1250 fps rather than the hopeful figures stated on a box will kill anything you normally could. I use 21grains of AS with a cx2000 primer, z24 plastic wad and 30 grams of shot for a shell that performs very nicely. It's on the FES website, 1257fps IIRC. jam1e
Norman Clarks has always been great in the past, as has someone else their. Dean springs to mind?? Primers are another thing. I don't want anything fancy, just good enough to do the job. I'll be going with fibre wads, as I don't want to litter the place with plastic, when there's cattle around. Been rifle reloading for a while, shotgun reloading is like learning all over again! Which I don't mind, I should add...
saddler
Dean is good.....Mrs. Norman is also very knowledgeable. Always a few one-off bargains on the shelf in the shop too
Vince Green
vectan A1 or if you cant get anything but alliant local to uou go for green dot it will be more expensive though. Green dot is a lovely powder for shotgun cartridges, most cartridges use faster burning powders because its cheaper (ie they use a smaller charge) but green dot is classic, a traditional old style powder
