It's that time of year again, I'm shooting on Saturday lunchtime, looking forward to it as it should be a good layout, with some seriously testing targets.

It's not my favourite ground, I've never won a shoot there, but hopefully the weather will be kind this time, as last time I shot there in a howling gale with snow showers. :good:

Anybody else going..??

Well, I'd guess you got those 3 points early on Saturday, when the weather was a tad kinder to the howling gale we had by Sunday lunchtime.

Good luck, see you there.

Best of luck fella's .

Incidently this ground is on my doorstep and having shot the sporting circuit many times I would say on a good day I average 50% if I'm lucky .

I am by no means a good shot infact probably worst now than when I first took up claying but looking at the range of some of the targets (Second bird especially) do you lads change chokes between stands to suit and also are you allowed to provide your own 28 grm shells ,If so what size shot is best for this ground ?

Ive,

Thanks for your good wishes, and yes, I will change chokes if the birds are a bit tasty, there's no point in using skeet chokes on a 70 yards edge on going away Teal, as you won't break it CONSISTENTLY, so I apply the golfers logic of using the correct club for the shot, and I will use a tighter choke whenever necessary.

Also 28 grams is the maximum permitted load, you are allowed to use any shot size between 6 & 9, (English sizes), home loads are not permitted, only factory produced ammo. I personally use about 60% Trap shells, 7.5's, and 40% Skeet shells, 9's, they work OK for me.

Well, the early results are in for the morning of day 1.

I'm told the top score so far is only 82, with many people shooting in the mid / low 70's and a few well known names in the 60's :good:

Faulds is shooting this afternoon, so let's see how he does..??

Digweed is away in the States and won't be shooting it apparently.

It is English 6.5...........6s are not allowed!

Just spoke to some of the Gloucester boys who shot today, they were on Faulds squad, they started on stand 13 the hardest!

A easy gimme followed by a 75 yard looper 4 pairs, Faulds never touched one!

Only one was broke in 32 guns - Im gonna get one! Will confirm if actually happens in due course, let us know if anyone hits one.

Steve Burnham from glos hit 85 - Well done Steve

Faulds hit 89

Mark Marshall 90 winning score at present

75 yard target?

Your having a bubble, right?

Thats only what im told, but then again when shooters miss a few birds it instantly becomes 10 yards further away!

But look at the facts how often does faulds not touch a bird on a stand?

And no-one hit one!

Fair comment there mate. However, range is something which separates the can's from the cant's but the target has to actually be hittable.

If the target is so far out that even a shot that's bang on might not break it because the pattern has opened up so much, that's a very bad target in my book.

Apparently the "easier" stands are down at the bottom end, numbers 1 - 3.

The forecast for tomorrow is slightly better, so we'll see how things work out..??

I'm going to have a good look at the targets before I shoot it.

I realise this is now off topic, but it's great to have a member of Alcoholics Anonymous now contributing to the forum.

A number of members have serious drinking problems which seriously affects their ability to shoot straight on a Sunday morning, so any advice you can give would be much appreciated..??

Ah hem! S'cuse me, are you by any chance referring to me last Sunday Cat? Coz if you are I’ve only got three words to say in reply to that.

Pot Kettle Black

Of course not, but you did admit to having far too much Pinot Grigio the night before, so perhaps that's why you missed so many dinner plates on the end of the barrel..?? :good:
