I was born and raised out in the sticks, about 1/4 mile from where Spandit lives - There were very few kids about in the local area in the 1950's, maybe half a dozen and cap guns is something every kid had. I remember various cowboy Colt revolver look-a-likes (1873)and a pirates percussion pistol but none used the plastic rings - I think these were a fair bit later.

Our caps were 1d a roll, about 100 shots on a roll, light green in colour or occasionally red. The also came in a paper tube of a dozen rolls. Occasionally also had a small cardboard with individual round caps. Takes me back :)

If you were 'tough' you would scrape a fingernail along a strip of caps, rest of us used to bash whole reels of the things with stones to see how many would go off at once--- oh what a happy childhood I had, hope my boys will be as happy, two year old is already climbing ladders to join me on the roof today much to 'mums' delight :-)

Oh the memories 1066 and Jaymo have just conjured up from my childhood, scraping a fingernail along the cap strip........the smell and the horrible stain on your nail  . My pocket money would never stretch to the red caps on a roll, but were apparently louder....... I never did find out
