New Eley Superbs in Silver cases

Recommended Posts

I've e-mailed Eley who have so far not responded about the new silver cased version of the Superbs being noticeably punchy to the point I wouldn't shoot them.

Has anyone else noticed this ?

I was talking to Stevo about the superbs the other day as I have been shooting the clear cased ones as had he but he has stopped using the new silver ones as they were much dirtier .

IIRC someone told him from eley that they were just a cosmetic change but on opening one up he found they were completely different .

Thanks for taking the trouble to do this, I had intended to myself but I have no means of measuring powders so accurately. I suspected the powder was the main difference for the kick. :)

I mixed 1/2 and 1/2 old v new on a round of skeet today.

25 straight ..... didn't notice any difference .....

The only reliable means of detecting differences in recoil is to shoot a stand with a pocketful of a shell you're familiar with ( kind of a control sample ), you then insert a couple of new ones in and any perceivable difference will be apparent.

This is what I did with Eley Olympic Blue's and old style Superbs and the kick was noticeable, in fact 2 friends accompanying me for the exercise maintained they could see the difference in my body jolt/movements.

Wonder why manufacturers insist on knacking up a good cartridge. They take a cartridge known for being smooth to shoot consistent and pattern well, to change it into something thumpy dirty and not nice to shoot.

Gamebore are going the other way their Kent Velicities were noted for having a kick but were quick and hit hard, now they're more akin to Hulls comp x.

Old adage of find cart you like and stick to it don't work when they cock it up

  • 3 weeks later...

I stopped buying cartridges with Eley on em some years ago! I had a very disappointing response to a problem I had with their shells.....seemed to be interested only in covering their derrière than resolving a customer complaint.........I will not buy from them again!

They didn't respond to my e-mails via their web site and FaceBook.
