monkeyjaimz
Now then fellas, After having been royaly shafted by nissan with the Navara , I have to replace it with a cheap runabout as a stop-gap. Went to look at a P reg frontera this afty and going to take it for a spin in the morning. Doesnt look bad at the minute, went through its mot yesterday, 5 decent tyres, 2L petrol, no dings or visible scuffs anywhere, decent towbar, fairly tidy inside, reasonable mileage and has service history. He's looking for around £1500 for it. Anybody got any opinions on these? or any suggestions of things to look out for tommorow when I take it for a test? Cheers
taff915
as with all cars mate apperance aint everything give it a real good looking over, i bought a vectra with full service history reciepts for cam belt, cam sensor etc. as far as buying was going it seemed real good but after 3000 miles the head gasket went which would normally cost 500 in a garage but did it myself, all maybe good for you but when you take it for a test drive check coolant b4 you go, run it for a good while making sure it reaches full working temp then check coolant when you get back "make sure you allow to cool" if dropped or hasnt reached around 90 degrees i wouldnt touch it. also check the oil make sure it aint like baileys the drink as thats water cross oil contamination which is also an indication. good luck
me and my lad
they featured one on top gear a few years ago (remember when it used to be a car program) it ended up getting stuck on a beach and drowned when the tide came in
Wookie
That was on driven and it was all down to tyre choice. You drive on sand with the wrong tyres and you will get stuck. my Fronty is a LWB and is a cracking car. Ask Andy75 about it or do a search for the Frontera Owners' Group on google. Lots of info there for you. Hell, i took mine green laning at the weekend it did just fine. SimonP has a 3.2 petrol B series and he takes it out to gravel pits. guess it's just how you drive it eh? lurcherboy
They are ok mate and the only problem I see with them is when someone buys one they complain of lack of power. They can overheat occasionaly but shouldn't be a problem if stop before it hits the red zone. LB
decroyffe
father in law has one, he reckons the 2.4 is the better one, but he also thinks jesus is a terrorist, so i wouldn't read to much into what he says. what i do know is there very comfortuble, make sure you know when the timing belt was last done, if at all. saying that, the 2.4 has a chain, check what the 2l has and budget the price if ones needed. good luck
monkeyjaimz
Cheers for all the advice guys. Thanks for the owners club link also wookie - your a star mate Took it out this morning, only thing I could pick it up on was the exhaust manifold rattling a bit, so got a few quid knocked off and away I went. Im quite happy with it in general, in all honesty it'll probably suit me better than the Navara did anyway. Thanks again fellas I'm gonna put a picture in the sporting pics section in a minute

simonp
They are ok mate and the only problem I see with them is when someone buys one they complain of lack of power. Lack of power ? Should have bought the 3.2 V6 Petrol one then , its lovely, and out drags most rep-mobiles, lol. They are excellent off-road. The first gen were based on the old Vauxhall pickup, but the gen2 (Fronty are essentially the Isuzu Rodeo and very capable off-road with the right tyre choice. They are deemed "not worthy" by the "up their own ***** landy" brigade (not all, but most) but who cares :-) Si

MC
If you want my opinion on Vauxhalls it is this, If they were the only car in the world I'd walk. I had a vectra with so many problems it spent longer in the garage than out, and one issue that vauxhall themselves couldn't sort out. They are ****, and big piles of it too. IMHO
Wookie
Good thing that mine's basically an Isuzu then. Still, I guess 180k without any problems is just lucky! *grin* Si, how many miles has your 3.2 done so far?
Pushkin
Martin - don't hold back - I get the feeling there is something you are trying to tell us? Pushkin
MC
I can only offer my opinion, based on what happened to me. When the company that made the car couldn't sort out there own ECU problems that says it all to me. And I don't mean a main dealer, it was Vauxhall technicians from the factory. 180K? It's all about to start
Wookie
Yeah, I know! My Omega got to about the same before the heads went (was a V6) but that was apparently a known issue with the 3.0 V6. Hell, I got a W reg Frontera 2.2. DTi with full leather and A/C for £600. I'm not too fussed if it only lasts me a year. Mind you, I'd replace the engine if it went... Love the car to bits. simonp
We've had our Frontera B 3.2 V6 Petrol for 5years and taken it from ~16K miles to 93K miles needing one clutch (as the wife rides them like a clutch ridey thing...) and, erm.... oh, one exhaust joint sorted. Stay well away from Frontera A's (they WERE vauxhall design), and as been pointed out by Martin, Vauxhalls are (generally) ****. The Frontera B (both SWB and LWB) is an Isuzu design, and hence cannot be marred by the generality of an anti-vauxhall rant IMHO, they are fab. Even though I'm picking up a new 3.0 V6 TDI '07 VW Touareg on Tuesday, I'm keeping Fronty. Neither the wife (who used it as a daily driver for 2yrs) nor I can face to get rid of it, so its becomming my off-road w/e play toy :o (3" lift, winch, etc etc ). Andy75
I have a 2.0 sport and a LWB 2.8 TDi LWB - both great cars, cheap to maintain, easy to work on. 2.8 is the Isuzu lump, great beastie tonnes of torque. Great fun on Salisbury Plain : RAR! I converted mine to softop - easier to use when shooting from, and easier to get out if stuck!

Cheers the last frontera i had did have problems with the brakes. the brake peddal went to the floor sometimes but others it didnt.this was down to a brake compensator under the car.however if the car has just passed an mot this may be ok,but they dont have to go to the floor all of the time.i was advised this is a fault on frontera,s. good luck
monkeyjaimz
monkey whats your name what you doing with the Navara now? Selling it? Andy75
Not had a compensator go on mine, but they are very easy to get to. Hardest bit would be the bleeding imho.
