coyotemaster
That's a decent price Beretta hold their value pretty well. I had that exact model and it was a great field gun but a bit light weight for sustained shooting. Wish I had kept it
Jason_ox
Thats a good price, they seem to hold value well. I have two 686s from the 80s and paid a bit more than that, the earlier ones are made better as well

TONY R
Buy it at that money the old 686s were awesome made guns the newer Berettas are less than awesome .
Glenlivet
If you're going to clay shoot with it check out the choking before you buy.

Glenlivet
It comes with full and half chokes , will that be ok ??If you're shooting trap/DTL yes. Is it multi choke? If so you can easily buy extra chokes for sporting/skeet etc.
meady638
Bought a S686 special 1987 model for £600 sold it on Saturday for £700. cant go wrong at that price
Blundy
No it's fixed chokes, is that a bad thing??
Glenlivet
No it's fixed chokes, is that a bad thing??Not a bad thing if it's choked for what you shoot. Skeet is usually shot with open chokes, sporting traditionally something like 1/4 and 1/2, DTL something like your 1/2 and full. I guess it would be OK for pigeons (don't personally shoot pigeons), horses for courses.
Blundy
Right well ideally wanted something that I could use on most types as possible so maybe not right gun but as it a good price can always sell on

Stimo22
I have had a 686s since 1986 which was two years old when I got it. It has had thousands of cartridges through it and is still as good as when I first got it. Would not part with it for anywhere near that money
ChrisAsh
Just pay for a gunsmith to open to about 1/4 and 1/2 or 1/4 and 1/4 and good for most things, most shooters have little need for anything over half unless dtl or wild fowling
Dougy
Check the length is correct, some people have been known to cut off the chokes. if all is as it should be then it could to be a good buy.
TONY R
No it's fixed chokes, is that a bad thing?? No not at all you will be fine with those chokes, and if you just cant get used to it.. As already mentioned above get the chokes openend up to what you want.
Blundy
Thx for all the advice, is it expensive to have chokes opened up?
ElvisThePelvis
Local gunsmith charges 25 per barrel, but i wouldn't worry about it if you are starting out, choke doesn't make that much difference in all honesty unless extremely close or extremely far away, you can also buy cartridges which pattern more open if you prefer. ChrisAsh
Why would a beginner want a shotgun with full choke and shooting skeet and only possibly the odd pigeon Come on fellers, get real
