marsh man
With the new season virtually upon us I would like to wish every one the best of luck for a successful and above all a safe season , there will be highs and lows and most fowlers just ignore the lows and carry on regardless . For some of you it will be your first taste of wildfowling and what better way to get used to the surroundings you will be going out in when the weather and conditions are not as pleasant as it is now. Then there will be the ones who have got many years under there belt and this one will be another one to put to the test the knowledge they have learnt after many years of wildfowling in all the conditions that come with the package and hopefully get it right on a few occasions and finally there will be the ones who have seen it all ( or most of it ) over there lifetime and know there time crossing muddy creeks , long walks in the dark , out in all weathers and crouching down in water filled dykes is drawing to a close and it will soon be time to stay near a log fire on a winters night and read on here the good bits and the odd bad bit about our wonderful sport called wildfowling . P S ...... A bit of advice.... If any of you who are out in the morning and have a bit of success, make sure you prepare the duck or goose as soon as possible for the table or put them in a old fridge or a freezer because in the weather we are having at the moment they will be going off before you hang them up , even more so if they are geese , when I came of the marsh around 5 o clock tonight it was nearly 26 degrees . also don't forget your insect repellent neither as you will need it . GOOD LUCK.

AberFowl
Good luck to all and enjoy. I will be out on the local estuary to listen to and watch 'my' beautiful piece of the earth along with its fine creatures wake up. I will never tire of the morning chorus from a mixed choir of wildfowl and waders! A special season for me as my other half is coming along to see what its all about. I look forward to hearing everyone's tales throughout the season.

marsh man
Also for those who are still awake , if your dog have had a lazy summer don't over do it in the heat , and it might not be a bad idea to take he or she some clean water and maybe a energy bar during your time out . In my case , my young dog is out every day for most of the day light hours and if anything he is to fit and it is me who need clean water and a mars bar
SuperGoose75
An all the Best yourself Marsh man and good luck for the coming Season. Hope you have a memorable one. Early season sport does not overly appeal to me anymore, But I was still up predawn and heard the opening shots of the season from my bedroom window. Im planning a few easy Fights over the next few weeks' more so to take my old boy who is still pretty active for his age "although his hearing is going" out for hopefully a couple of handy water retrieves in Which will certainly be his last active season. I have no intention of over working him and with no Dog planned until the Spring of the year' I will be having a quite one. But look forward to all the reports on here. Have a good one all. marsh man
Thanks SuperGoose, and good luck to you over in Ireland for the coming season . I am the same now , what few duck we have got on the marshes near mine I have seen them grow up to the late flapper stage they are in now and I have got no intention to jump them out of the dykes, and to see parties of duck flying in and out of the stubble fields is now a thing of the past , well it is around here . I to was out about 5.45 , a bit late to hear the early shots but there was very little shooting going on , from about 6.30 a few more shots were heard as the pigeons left the woods to go the stubbles and time I got back to my motor at around 7.45 every where was silent and peaceful once again .
