A Better Weekend

I was joined on Saturday by Gaz and after our usual full English we headed out looking for pigeons. The weather was terrible and it pretty much rained all day so we didn't hold too much hope. After an hour we found roughly 80-100 birds feeding on wheat stubble so get a brolly hide set up to keep us dry and started with 12 shell decoys. The birds soon started to return and we had an afternoon of steady shooting. The rain didn't seem to be putting the birds off and we ended with 186 pigeon and a crow.

Sunday I was out on my own and after looking at all of my ground I found very little. I went and looked at the wheat from the previous day and it had about 50 bird feeding. I set up but after an hour I had only 4 birds come to the decoys so packed up and carried on looking. I got to the pea field I shot during the week with the .410 and pushed about 500 birds off it. Knowing where the flight line is I got set up right under it. I had a mixture of reactions from the birds, some committed to the set up where as other flared off at the sight of it. I had some good shooting with the wind and ended up with 105 picked and a few lost behind me in a thick wood.

Cheers

Ben
