mossy835
BASC emailed my - and assume all members - with the official line on this which I've printed off ready for my impending renewal. If there is any suggestion of a fee I'll simply dump this on my GPs desk. +

If there is any suggestion of a fee I'll simply dump this on my GPs desk. I gave my doctor a copy of the BASC advice. The doctor said it is non NHS work so they wont touch it without someone paying. The argument is over whether us or the police pay and the police could effectively hold us to ransom by withholding our renewed licences. It's a shambles. No they can't as if the gp doesn't reply within 21 day it assumed there is nothing further to report so no issues.
sitsinhedges
No they can't as if the gp doesn't reply within 21 day it assumed there is nothing further to report so no issues. But the GP's are replying. They are replying with a letter stating they refuse to take part at all without payment. It seems now that it just a case of who blinks first, the applicant or the police. Royal22lr
We must stick together on this matter BASC advice is sound advice. three years ago my FAC was refused by my local force, reason was that I was on medication for work related stress. Appealed to Crown Court, obtained letter of support FOC from my GP.FAC issued in 10 days. As stated by Welsh Warrior if you don't pay GP fee, local FAD will assume no issues. Be patient and stick together. Best wishes, Malcolm

If there is any suggestion of a fee I'll simply dump this on my GPs desk.Quote from The Humberside Group of Local Medical Committees Ltd: "The BMA has been involved from the outset in consulting on the new UK process alongside representatives from the police, the shooting communities and other relevant parties." http://www.humbersidelmc.org.uk/uploads/3/7/5/8/37582639/advice_sheet_-_firearms_guidance_for_gps_june_2016.pdf Please point out to your GP that advice issued by BASC is based directly on the Home Office publication. The BMA have chosen not to mention this on their website, and are only saying that ".....the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) are now advising their members to refuse payment to GPs for responding to the initial police letter." Perhaps the BMA's failure to mention Home Office guidance in this context was just an oversight, in which case we might expect it be corrected in the near future. If, on the other hand, there was a deliberate decision by the BMA to omit relevant information in order to present a distorted account of true situation, that would reflect very badly on the medical profession. A scientist who knowingly suppresses significant information from a publication would generally be regarded as unreliable; it would be unfortunate if, as a result of these recent BMA actions, ethical standards among UK doctors came to be regarded as substantially lower than those of other scientists. And if doctors were found to be suppressing information in website publications, would you have much faith in their medical reports?
rbrowning2
I have posted a couple of times on different posts about this, we have been stitched up good and proper the police have got what they wanted and we did not get the ten year certificates. Who pays for what was not properly agreed and it will become a post code lotto on what you will be asked to pay. Which ever shooting organisations that agreed to this (or were they just told and had no say) look to have made agreements without a proper process structure and it should never have been agreed to without FIRST agreeing a date that the Ten year certificates would also commence. Don't pay and pass the pain on to your shooting organisation or better still ask them to pay.
norfolk dumpling
As I understand this now we simply ignore any request for fees and your licence will still be issued. This is only a 'flag' on your medical record to say you have a gun licence. Provided you have no medical issues which might prohibit/delay your licence then the police have to proceed without your records being flagged.
