used hatch back?

was involved in an accident last friday where a van pulled out on me, the end result of which is starting to look like will be a write off. So..... i have to find myself some new wheels, dependant on how the insurance values the car it will be in the 3500-4000 range (maybe more for the right car)

i would rather a diesel than a petrol, but if the MPG is high enough i dont mind petrol.

i wont have another clio (although i loved the car, the ABS in my opinion was too keen, and once burnt.... blah blah)

i have been looking at a corsa 1.2 sxi+, anyone have any views on these? had a sit in one, they seem well enough put together, i understand they can go through a steering rack at 30k and clutches can be a problem, however this does not concern me too much.

I dont want a Ford KA (sorry to say but even i have standards) or a toyota yarris (great car, but too small for me and just not my cup of tea)

also no 1.0, car needs to have a little go for the motorway.

Lets not start a slagging match, i just would like your opinions on a few cars and just a quick over view of any problems you have.

cheers you lot :sly:

Have you driven a Ka? Cheap as chips to run, solid as a rock and reliable. They are also quite fun, like mini go karts! For £4k probably could get a "sport" one too! I said I would never drive one and we ripped one of the lads for having one but they are actually great little cars! The only problem is boot space, anything longer than a 5 (maybe 6 cant remember) iron wont fit in the back, so nor would a shotgun. Although I just wack it all on the backseat.

Personally, once I hit around 23-27 I will scrap/chop in the Ka and get a nice Seat Cupra Sport, but until then stick with the Ka. its fine on motorways will happily scoot along at 90mph without any fuss.

I know just thought I would let you know what your "missing" and that I said the same once! The new shape fiesta's look tasty, 4k would pick you put a pretty good used one and should be cheap to run/insure. Or you could try a VW golf or audi A3?

Golf too heavy and underpowered in 1.6 you'd be able to afford to insure, same with the A3, even if you could find one with any paint left on it for 4k

That said, the 1.9tdi is a cracking engine which goes forever, not sure what they go for but you'd get a reasonable example for that. Either 115ps or 130ps depending on the year, loads of torque and bullet proof.

Have you considered the Nissan Almera? Great cars - old or newer versions. The 16 valve 1.6 goes like stink, has good legroom (I'm 6ft 2inch and had no problems) and good boot/hatch space, good milage and they are cheap and cheerful to service and maintain. good level of standard trim - leccy windows and all that. Seriously worth a look at and come in at reasonable prices for what you get :sly:

Pushkin

As I said in a previous post, if vauxhalls were the only car I'd walk.

You won't go far wrong with a Ford or anything japanese. I hope you are sticking one into the other guys insurance company :sly:

Mileage like I said 80k or better, Insurance group 8 for the 115PS 1.9TDi

If you drive it like a saint you might get 55+mpg. Boot it and you won't get a lot less than 40.

I had one which was dogged with problems and nearly everyone I know who has a vauxhall has had problems ranging from water pumps (I had 3 in 3 years) engine management(Even vauxhall couldn't solve mine) and head gaskets(Including mine I know of 9 in the last 3 months)

As the saying goes in Essex, "I wouldn't touch one with yours" :stupid::good:

THe one thing you can be sure of is the other insurance company won't accept liability, they will kick and scream for a while then make you a silly offer. Thats when the fun begins.

Have you been to see a doctor about your neck yet?

group 8 is a little high for me with a potential black mark on my name unfortunatly.

If you want to bank £1K+ too (if you buy right! :) ) you could go for a Honda Civic 1.5 VTEC. Built to last reasonable to insure, cheap tax (£110 :stupid: ) and 48-50mpg! :o

Cruises well at speed, then drop down a gear or two, spin the engine up (it's what the jap engines are designed to do) and it's a rocketship! :good:

Not too big but you can still get 32" barrels in the boot or across the back seat! :good:

Built to last (done 55K on mine in the last 2 years taking it up to 100K overall, all I've had done is oil/filter changes, mid-exhaust, cam belt and tyres!), reasonable to insure, cheap tax (£110 :stupid: ) and I CANNOT get below 45mpg!! (average 48-50mpg) :o

which shape you talking about?

im after a modern car, at the end of the day i spend alot of time in my car, so want to like it.

I am not (strangely) put off the vauxhall by the reports of bad reliabilty as ive owned a french car, and i can confirm its not as bad as people make out. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you dont.

306 HDi. If properly maintained will last forever, cheap tax and at least 40mpg. Think they are a cheap insurance group too :good:

My company told our lease firm to dump Peugeot and Citreon solely on the basis of that one model! :stupid: At one time we had more 307's off the road in garages than on! :o Have driven some good ones though, not bad cars when they work. :)
