Dazv
Hi all, so I'm currently waiting for my phone call and feel like it's taken an age! I'm currently at 125 days and the average apparently is 55 in the Thames valley! Is there anything I can do to hurry it up? I gave them a call and still waiting for background checks? I'm fed up of shooting a friends gun! Cheers guys! Much appreciated! Darren
kody
Is it a grant or renewal Don't want to add to your worry but my mate is 365 days and still waiting on a renewal
Dazv
It's for a grant, my first one. Your bloody joking!!! I might have to get good at throwing rocks at this rate!
parapilot
I don't understand why renewals take so long, surly it's an easy task. Why do they have to do all the checks again, they know you are a fit person, and they know you have not been naughty in the last period or they would have come knocking in your door to take your guns. They should go for 10 year checks, with all the tech and computers they know if anything changes.
Dazv
It's only my first one but still seems like such a long time! Do you boys know of any way I can hurry them along?

Agree they have brought the backlog on themselves plus Cameron's cutbacks didn't help

Guest stevo
It's so frustrating! Any way to speed it up?Nope. Your just have to hold tight. As far as getting your shooting organisation involved I would save your breath. BASC and CA ect are nothing more than a paper tigers. fortune
Nope. And if you call them up and start jumping up and down they will say that probably you aren't a suitable person to have one and you could have your application put down on the bottom of the pile. And as above your granny has as much influence as basc. Edited November 14, 2016 by fortune
Dazv
That's fine, at least I now know they'd nothing I can do to hurry it along! It was a nice lady on the phone who said they are all so understaffed!
buze
Thames valley seems to be very 'special' as well, seems that a whole year is the current standard... Saw a lady last week who picked up her NEW shotgun from the shop, it was her chrismas present from... LAST YEAR. She just had her SGC, waited a whole year for it. fortune
What gets me is the fact that one force takes a year and the force next door takes weeks. Work that one out? Why are there county forces? We don't have county air forces or county navies. All this is unccessary admin and ranks like chief constables. Dazv
It is a right pain in the backside! I'm Hoping it doesn't take much longer, a year just seems madness!
Pigeon Shredder.
Your going to have to chill out on this one, it is not going to happen no matter how much you fret, my FAC took 7 months and then my SGC took a further 2 months, why nobody knows. And as others have said if you rock the boat you will suddenly find your application has got misplaced, referred to the Chief Insp or many other excuses, I heard them all when mine was being processed. fortune
I'll just forgot about it for now and be surprised when j get a phone call. Haha well I hope I get my phone call It's not the phone call that you need to be waiting for that's just the intro. You could be waiting for a long time after you have had your home inspection/visit. It's when you either get the envelope through the post or the cert is given to you that is the definitive moment. Start looking for the gun now. Dazv
Haha oh that's depressing! I've already found a gun and put a deposit down on it. That was the same time I applied.
oldypigeonpopper
hello, anything up to a year !!!!!!!!! with TVP
Dazv
Luckily the gunshop are happy to hold it for me until I get my cert through. It's just crazy how long it takes, I guess they have to be carful though as they need to check your fit to own a shotgun.
Dano0404
I chased mine up with a couple of emails, on the 2nd email they said they had put it at the top of the pile for me.
Pigeon Shredder.
Haha oh that's depressing! I've already found a gun and put a deposit down on it. That was the same time I applied. So lets get it straight, you have no cert, you have put a deposit on a gun, the RFD has taken your deposit and will hold the gun for you even though you don't know if you will be granted an SGC. The winner at the moment is the RFD who took your deposit, as if he would not have! I while waiting for my certs to come through trawled the internet, sussed out what I wanted 100% and from where/whom, and when the day happend and the magic envelope hit the mat went out and then bought the guns, cash worked even better on the day. To buy/ put a deposit on before hand can only frustrate you even more so, and if as you say your using your mates gun, get the one you have a deposit on onto his cert, use it and when if your cert comes through transfer it over. If however your not granted you have at least got use in your mates company the use of the gun you like. Just my thought's.
buze
@Pigeon Shredder, in most other businesses I would agree with you, but most *good* guns shops do that without any hope for a 'reward' -- in this case they might be paid in a year after all *if the SGC is granted* -- so they DO take quite a risk by doing that. They'll have to keep that gun on their inventory for a year; if you add the number of people who would have to do that, you end up with a lot of money/stock locked away in thin air waiting for the admin to go thru... Dazv
5 months would do me just fine! I'm at just over 4 And yeah I put a deposit down it just seemed like a good deal for the gun and fits me well.
