johnnytheboy
I was just wondering what everyone's feedback on this vehicle is, I heard goo etchings about their engines but wondered in general what the real world results where? 39TDS
Damned good trucks. 2.7 diesel engine goes forever with rarely any trouble, had 250k+ out of one of mine and that was mostly around the fields. Front wings are often a rust point as can be where the body/chassis fixes together. I've had half a dozen or more, much prefer the 2 doors, 36mpg if you stick to 56mph and that's about a sensible top speed for them anyway. They are not racing cars. Droplinks to front antiroll bar need replacing at pretty much every MOT but cost less than £15 a pair and are easy enough to do yourself. ben0850
We've had our 3.0 for three years now, capable off road, tows well (plated for 3t from memory). Ride quality is fairly agricultural but the trucks spot on, no complaints
Fuji Shooter
Do they not use the London Taxi engine. Good for mega miles if you can find one with wings.
Adge Cutler
I had a Maverick in 1994, same vehicle... the only fault was a rattley timing chain. I foolishly took it into a waterlogged field once up to the axles when lamping.. I thought it was a tow out job but the low range got me out no trouble at all. johnnytheboy
Is it the wings that rot as that's not a biggie as they are just bolt on?
39TDS
The arch of the front wing is what rots. Yes they bolt on but you first have to have one to bolt on, that's not so easy. They don't all rot, my current Terrano is 20 years old and the wings are like new as far as rot goes. One is not so pretty as I drove it into a tree trunk much to my displeasure. :(
fruity
As said above . Great trucks , I find mine brilliant off road with decent tyres , black cab engines in 2.7 so kept serviced go on for ever. A little agricultural but don't mind that , no cam belt either
Rimfireboy
Mines been relentless, had it about seven years. Only problem was a broken wire under the bulkhead for air sensor, causing erratic tickover. Got rusty front wings now though, but a great truck. Only got stuck once when it was up to the axles. Had to get the tractor to pull it out. Also as td39 says, the front links need attention. Edited November 16, 2016 by Rimfireboy
johnnytheboy
Couple of questions just out of interest, what taxi do they share an engine with? What's the difflock arrangement? I see that there is a low box but do they have a transfer box locker or rear difflock? Just out of interest!

Fuji Shooter
I had a 2.7 Auto many moons ago called a Mistral (Jap Import) but exactly the same car. Bought it for £1K off a dealer who took it as a trade, drove it for 2 years and sold it for £2K
