eastdevon
Had a friend round for a cupper after blasting a heck load of clays up farm, we were cleaning our guns and he commented on what I was using for cleaning the bore of the barrel. His words were something like why you spending ya money on that (browning bore foam) when carb cleaner is alot cheaper and easier to get! Is carb cleaner ok to use as a barrel cleaner??? I have a hatsan pump and mainly use fibre wad cartridges if this helps.
steve_b_wales
I've never used it, but I suppose it can't do any harm.
eastdevon
It cant be that bad as mate has had his shotgun since he got his licence which was if I am right in thinking about 20 year ago. And even now it looks almost new. Just thought id ask about because if I is ok to use it will save me a small fortune!!!
HDAV
Carb cleaner won't leave any lasting protection it's designed not too leave any residue..... GT85 is less than £2 a tin...... Legia is £8-12 for a big can? Carb cleaner is £3 a tin ? Over a year you might save £5? Is it worth it? Depends on how much you value the £5 Edited December 7, 2016 by HDAV
welshwarrior
Carb clean is fine for cleaning but not protecting so you then need a good gun oil there's the £5 you saved spent.
theshootist
I use it a lot. It's especially good ridding an sa80 of carbon and all the junk built up in the tmh.

clakk
Its Trich a solvent cleaner so yes it,l clean any residue out of your bores but will also remove any oil in there. So as Welsh Warrior said you still need to oil in there to protect from rust .So shiny yes protected no atb
fieldwanderer
I used wd40 for years without any issues, sometimes soak a 4x2 patch (wrapped around an old brush) in hoppes too.
figgy
Be careful i used some super solve and various carb cleaners in the past and you could watch the guns rust after use, oiling straight away is a must. Its also not good in contact with your wood or camo stocks. Cleanzoil and napier ultraclean does all i need
