popa bear
Okay guys don't know if this has been done to death (i expect it has somewhere) but here goes.which barrel solvent cleaner do you guys recommend for best results and value.I'm just coming to the end of a small aerosol can of Parker and Hale 009.I've just been looking at a large can of Napier and a smaller can of Garlands any input would be helpful thanks in advance
Jay_Russell
Just switched from the usual bore cleaner made by Bisley to the napier big can. Really really impressed with it. Removed Fouling veey quickly and it makes the whole job of cleaning and oil so much quicker.
Mr.C
Philips gun barrel cleaner. Best I've used by far. Edited December 30, 2016 by Mr.C

Chris Bb
Napier for normal use but Remington "Brite Bore" for heavy fouling. Hopefully using Napier cleaner and gun oil together with VP90 sachet in the safe will improve gun longevity but I suppose they're all "snake oil" to a greater or lesser degree. northstar
Hi, Ballistol universal is a barrel cleaner, gun oil and wood care in one that over time builds a protective surface layer that is not sticky. Highly recommended !!!!!!
Dougy
What are you cleaning?
dodeer
For actions and most stuff I use Tetra action blaster and give it a good scrub and wipe, then I use browning Leiga oil over metal surfaces
JohnfromUK
Just to be different, I have always used Young's 303 for cleaning/preserving inside barrels, Rangoon oil for protecting outside metalwork, and Express oil for 'oiling', with Castrol or Halford's grease for the hinge pin etc. Wood get an occasional Phillips walnut oil. All are used very sparingly as guns running in oil or solvent is not a good thing. Young's 303 works well for me, but not as well as it once did - the formula has been changed (allegedly to comply with modern chemical restrictions)
