Danger-Mouse
Qb1 to b6 Kc6 to c5 White king can't move to c5, he would be in check from the bishop on a3.
chrisjpainter
The thing I'm struggling with is making Black's move irrelevant. Too many times I've got to a position that I think works, only to find I've forgotten how black can make spaces to move into, or sacrifice stuff to make it impossible in 2 moves! chrisjpainter
That's why it's a problem It's a bit unconventional, but you're okay with me extending the board another row? that could be useful. Thanks mate.

toxo
Nope. As a matter of curiosity, how do you get from b8 to c5? No, Qh7 blocks/delays that line of attack Sorry. Should have have been Q at b8 x pawn at e5 mate.
Danger-Mouse
Sorry. Should have have been Q at b8 x pawn at e5 mate. Thought you'd broken the puzzle for a moment there. Took me a while to figure out the counter. If Qb8 Rf5 blocks all possible lines of attack. If Qd6 then Ba3xQd6, if Qb8xPe5 then Rf5xQf5, if Qb8-c8 then Kf6 and if Qb8-e8 then Ba3-e7 Or Pe5xPd4 also gives the king escape routes vs any attack by the queen. Danger-Mouse
apologies! as Above, but to e4 to start! I meant to put it there, i just can't count to 4 lol yes I figured as much. These are the variations If black refuses to take white's queen and defends the e pawn with his own queen And if black moves his rook to any square other than f5 If rook to f5

Danger-Mouse
Forgive me, yet again to much port after the shoot So go on then, what was the answer? lol I was going to make a quip about port.
