Poacher
I;m not sure how much experience you have you shotguns, so will describe an equivalent demonstration. Get an empty bog roll put it up to your eye, throw a tennis ball up in the air and try and watch its movement through that. Now repeat this without the bog roll and use both eyes to watch the ball. Using which technique do you could hit that ball ?

Wookie
The only time I have seen a scope used on a shotgun was on a poster in Italy where the guy was using it to shoot boar with solids. I think that's about the only time you'd want to use one.

Andy W
I think lead would be difficult to see with a scope as well.
Dunkield
Red dot scopes are used on shotguns for driven boar sometimes. If you shoot both eyes open, you would be surprised how user friendly they are. EDITED TO ADD: They have unlimited eye relief so you don't have to worry about getting 'snipers eye'
Peter_HMR
Only used for shooting stationary targets might be a good option for a fox shotgun. Just makes it that bit easier when shooting stationary targets at longer distances

A Sick Old Man
I think the term "Shotgun Scope" is a Simmons term, I have seen it in there range, http://www.riflescopes.com/departments/709...tgun_scopes.htm Never seen a scope on a shotgun, mind you I have led a very sheltered life

I have a friend with one of those side by sides, but it's a .470 rifle. It doesn't have a scope either, apparently there is no need. You fire your first shot at 20 yrds and if it's still coming at you, fire your second shot at ten yards. JF

bobby t
That could end in tears, a buffalo will run more than 20 yards on adrenaline even after being shot twice a couple of years ago in the shooting times they had an african hunting guide form the past giving all the suggested calibers and distances for shooting big game, i think for a lion or leopard the secound shot was supposed to be at 10yards in the head. and an elphant 30 yards.
